We asked for climate tech that specializes in circular economy solutions, and you answered! The Trust for Governors Island is pleased to announce the 2025 Climate Solutions Challenge winners, a cohort of 8 companies that will join the piloting community on Governors Island beginning this summer. Shifting to a #circulareconomy that reuses, refurbishes, and recovers is key to achieving an #equitable, #netzero city, and this year’s winners are all developing the innovative solutions that will help get us there. They are: ♻️ Arbon Corp: Direct Air Capture (DAC) humidity-swing technology ♻️ Birdsview: Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) structural assessment technology ♻️ CarbonCLAIR: Off-grid mobile air quality units ♻️ CO Adaptive Architecture: Energy efficient modular wall systems ♻️ Mira Intel: Drone-based structural assessments and proprietary analysis software ♻️ Phytostone: Biodegradable, low-carbon architectural wall tiles ♻️ Plantaer: Living concrete building façade technology ♻️ Rego: Digital utility meter for waste management Winners announced today will receive a site on Governors Island to demonstrate their projects, grant awards of $10,000, and access to a common pool of additional funds to support pilot implementation. Coming in 2029: The New York Climate Exchange's Hub on Governors Island! Crain's New York Business recently caught up with The Exchange to learn more about how the physical campus—set to open in 2029—will serve as a mod­el for sus­tain­abil­i­ty through ener­gy-pos­i­tive design strate­gies includ­ing mass tim­ber con­struc­tion, a solar canopy, and adap­tive reuse of exist­ing build­ings. Skanska USA, recent­ly tapped as con­struc­tion man­ag­er, joins a team of world-class archi­tects, engi­neers, and project lead­ers, and oth­er indus­try lead­ers that The Exchange has assem­bled for this project. ICYMI, the Trust for Governors Island recently issued an #RFP seeking food and beverage operators to reimagine a premier waterfront restaurant space on Governors Island, available beginning in 2026. We're looking for: ✔️ Approachable concepts that appeal to the Island’s broad, highly engaged audience of nearly one million annual visitors and will continue to grow food offerings on the Island. ✔️ Proposals that articulate a clear sustainability perspective, including all-electric operations, sustainable sourcing, climate-forward menus and attention to build-out materiality. ✔️ Submissions from business owners from diverse backgrounds reflecting the Island visitorship and NYC.
