The climate crisis is here, and New Yorkers are already feeling its impacts. That’s why Governors Island is proud to present programs that support the research, development, and demonstration of equitable climate solutions. In our piloting program, now in its second year, innovators are given the resources they need—funding, time, space, exposure, and support—to test their technology in the real world, engage with New Yorkers, and scale their products. In addition to the climate piloting program, this year saw the opening of a new convening space in the newly renovated Building 309 on the Island to provide a dedicated indoor space for individuals engaged in climate solutions to connect, host discussions, and foster learning and dialogue. Together with our partners, we held over 40 climate programs during Climate Week NYC alone, and we can’t wait to see what 2025 will bring! Hear more from the team in our new video, and support equitable climate solutions today with a donation to the Governors Island Foundation at govisland.org/donate. https://lnkd.in/ejv-Zz46

Governors Island is here for you in every season–whether you prefer sledding down Discovery Hill, taking in spring blooming trees in Liggett Terrace, leaf peeping in Nolan Park, or tossing a frisbee at Picnic Point. Our horticulture and landscaping teams work 365 days a year, utilizing nature-based solutions and native habitat restoration to help improve our city’s environment and create a welcoming Island. Each year our nearly one million visitors experience a growing number of free and engaging public art exhibitions on Governors Island. A highlight from this past year: artist and activist Jenny Kendler’s “Other of Pearl,” the grand yet delicate exhibition presented by #GovIslandArts and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) that explored human relationships with the natural world through the lens of oysters and whales. We also hosted the second annual INTERVENTIONS performance series that highlighted acclaimed artists from around the world, and more than 20 nonprofit Organizations in Residence in the Island’s historic houses. THANK YOU for visiting, supporting, and engaging with Governors Island Arts this season. Visit govisland.org/donate today to support our arts programs with a donation, and stay tuned for an exciting 2025 season! 📸 clockwise from left: “Cabin,” Rachel Whiteread (Julienne Schaer), “Church,” Shantell Martin (Timothy Schenck), “Bird MMXXIII,” Sheila Berger (Cirsty Burton), “Not for Nutten,” Duke Riley; “The Open Orchard,” Sam Van Aken; and “Whale Bells” as featured in “Other of Pearl,” Jenny Kendler and Andrew Bearnot (Timothy Schenck)
