The retrofit market is about to go through a huge transformation. To meet the IEA’s net-zero targets, global retrofit spending must grow from $500 billion today to $2.9 trillion by 2030 and $3.9 trillion by 2050. This shift will require nearly 8 billion tonnes of materials by 2030 and nearly 40 billion tonnes by 2050. But here’s the catch: Energy-efficiency retrofits alone won’t unlock their full potential unless the industry embraces a circular value chain. 🔄 Currently, the built environment generates 40% of global emissions — with construction materials like concrete and steel playing a huge role. Without a circular approach, retrofitting could become just another contributor to waste and emissions instead of a solution. 📌 What Needs to Change? ✅ Smarter, data-driven inspections to extend the life of existing infrastructure. ✅ Advanced materials and technology to reduce raw material consumption. ✅ Predictive maintenance to minimize unnecessary replacements. 🔗 Based on the white paper by World Economic Forum in collaboration with McKinsey & Company https://shorturl.at/6PFgI 💬 At Birdsview, we have a direct relation to this challenge. Our non-invasive inspection technology helps assess infrastructure conditions with precision, ensuring that retrofits are targeted, efficient, and sustainable. By preventing unnecessary replacements and maximizing the lifespan of materials, we’re accelerating circularity in infrastructure https://www.birdsview.ai/ #Retrofitting #Infrastructure #CircularEconomy #WorldEconomicForum #McKinsey #DigitalTransformation #NetZero

Preserving infrastructure for a sustainable and secure future
Om oss
Birdsview is a Norwegian technology company founded in 2017, with a goal of preserving infrastructure for a sustainable and secure future. Nothing lives forever, but with the right tools, it is possible to extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure, making the most of precious resources while minimizing cost and environmental impact. Infrastructure is one of society’s most important assets, the buildings we live and work in, the bridges we cross, and the power grid that provides us with electricity. These structures are aging rapidly, and solutions that can help us preserve and secure critical infrastructure are needed now more than ever. To achieve this we have developed unique technology using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and advanced software that enables us to transform data into insight, for accurate and efficient assessment of critical infrastructure.

The best way to showcase the value of our technology is through real-life projects with our partners. Today we want to share the results of our work with Brødrene Ulveseth AS on the Castbergkvartalet project, which is a perfect example of how new solutions can streamline construction processes. When Brødrene Ulveseth needed to document and map the rebar in the basement floor under the Football Pub in Bergen city center, the traditional approach would have involved breaking up the concrete, which is time-consuming and expensive. Instead, our ground-penetrating radar (GPR) technology provided a non-invasive solution, enabling precise rebar mapping without demolition. 📌 Project insights: 🔹 Mapped rebar in the basement floor and two structural columns. 🔹 Located and identified 10 mm and 16 mm reinforcement bars with precise spacing in the 220-230 mm range. 📌 The impact? 🔹 2 weeks were saved on the project. 🔹 100,000–200,000 NOK in cost savings. 🔹 Detailed structural insights without disrupting the site. “Using Birdsview was a no-brainer. The traditional method would have taken two weeks of breaking up and re-pouring concrete – unnecessary work and a lot of extra hassle. With Birdsview, we got a faster, simpler, and far more cost-effective solution.” — Ståle Smaadal, Project Manager, Brødrene Ulveseth. By combining Birdsview’s advanced scanning GPR technology with Brødrene Ulveseth’s industry expertise, we’ve demonstrated how data-driven solutions can enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize disruption on-site. #GPR #Innovative #Construction #ClientCase

Yesterday we started our day by having a tasty breakfast and giving a couple of pitches among other fellow start-up founders at the “Bricks & Bytes” event organised by Startuplab Bergen, GC Rieber Eiendom AS and DNB Næringseiendom AS. Sounds like a perfect start of the day doesn’t it?😎 But we wouldn’t be ourselves if even at the casual event we haven't noted a few insights and learned about the main trends in the construction industry! Here are some examples of how large companies can collaborate more effectively with startups: 🔹 The construction industry is evolving fast, with startups tackling some of its biggest challenges. We had the privilege of sharing the stage with HØINE AS, Cemonite, Kvist, and Bú Composite showcasing innovative solutions shaping the future. 🔹 Erlend Kaland Simonsen from DNB Næringseiendom AS shared how they are encouraged to work with third-parties to enhance innovation, which usually means great opportunities for startups. 🔹 Frode Tørresdal from Norconsult highlighted why they became Norway’s first consultancy firm to partner with Startuplab, embracing collaboration to tackle both present and future challenges. 🔹 A key theme? The willingness to innovate, even when the path isn’t always clear. As Erlend Waaler from Startuplab put it, taking bold steps is crucial for progress. Great discussions, great energy, and a bright future ahead for innovation in construction! #ConstructionInnovation #Startuplab #DNB #NorwayStartups #BergenStartups #Collaboration #Birdsview

BIG NEWS FROM NEW YORK🚀 We’re so excited to announce that Birdsview has won the Trust for Governors Island's Climate Solution Challenge 2025! Out of high amount of competitors, we were selected to bring our advanced concrete scanning technology to Governors Island, just south of Manhattan, where we’ll help assess and extend the lifespan of 50 historic military buildings. This pilot project is about embracing circular construction practices, reducing waste, and contributing to New York City’s zero waste goals. By giving existing structures a second life, we’re proving that the greenest buildings are the ones that are already built. Governors Island is undergoing a transformation, and we’re proud to be part of it — bringing Norwegian technology to the heart of one of the world’s most iconic cities. 📢 Want to learn more? Check out what Shifter.no wrote about us: https://rb.gy/umu3gk P.S. Up to 10% of construction materials during building end up as waste. That’s a huge loss — not just financially but also for the environment. What’s the key to reducing this waste? Precise condition assessments. By accurately evaluating structures, we can identify reusable materials, extend their lifespan, and reduce the demand for new resources. Some construction teams are still evaluating the health of the building simply by guessing or damaging the structure — these methods should remain in the past. But what should be used instead? Our answer is Ground Penetrating Radars technology that detects rebars with precise visualization. Knowing exactly where reinforcement bars are placed, in what condition they are, and getting detailed documentation allows engineers to assess whether a structure can be preserved, partially reused, or needs replacement. This approach aligns with circular construction trends, reducing waste while keeping projects efficient and sustainable. See how we can assist your next project using this technology and get visualizations in a matter of minutes already in the field! https://lnkd.in/dnsH4e3X #Construction #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #RebarDetection #WasteReduction

When Ingunn Ek asked us if we can make a short, fun video about Birdsview culture for Vestlandskonferansen it was a small challenge for us. You see, this video supposed to be shown on the huge screens of one of the biggest event arena in Norway Grieghallen AS in front of 1.500+ people. Well, the responsibility was high, especially when your humor will be “judged” by leaders of your country! But we think that we executed this task quite nicely, especially after hearing the audience laughing on our take about Ghostbusters and how running a start-up can change your appearance. Have we intrigued you? 😏 Check out the video by yourself and let us know in the comments if we made you laugh! #Vestlandskonferansen25
