About us
Advanced Energy Group (AEG) is a quarterly, competitive stakeholder engagement platform sponsored by over 50 public/private organizations and leaders committed to delivering pledged clean energy and equity goals of select cities and vulnerable regions. Our sponsors and leaders understand that decarbonization goals mean more than numbers and metric tonnes. Achieving climate, health and equity goals means saving lives, social justice, avoiding economic hardship and physical suffering. The AEG Stakeholder Challenge is a 3-part competition run quarterly in Boston, Chicago, New York and Washington D.C. and annually for the Caribbean. AEG facilitates constructive collaboration to: 1) understand and prioritize critical obstacles blocking the clean energy transformation and social equity. 2) develop 12 month solutions with quarterly milestones for accountability to best overcome these obstacles. 3) deliver breakthrough results via cross-sector, volunteer task forces.

What a fantastic day one of Advanced Energy Group's Building Decarbonization Summit, hosted at Con Edison here in NYC. Thank you so much to H.G. Chissell & Shaun A. Hoyte in particular for kicking off this innovative event. Today's conversations highlighted industry-wide issues and solutions on the importance of connectivity (especially for DERs, VPPs & TES), "deconsumption," proactive retrocommissioning and creative design, workforce development, and educating folks on the cost of doing nothing. It was great to see and meet so many passionate stakeholders in the Climate Justice space! Laura Eckenrod, CEA, WELL AP, Maura Yates, Sean Brennan, Omar Duran, MIKE PORCELLI, Gina Bocra, FAIA, LEED Fellow, Eleanor "Ellie" Rusling, Andrew Kringas, Hannah Wolfe, Derick Kowalczyk, MFBA, MD AMINUL ISLAM, PE, CEM, EBCP, Michael W., Sina Jasteh, PE, Simon Mugo, PMP®, LEED AP, Luke Surowiec, Andrew Chintz, Emily Hoffman, Chris Herman, Joshua Patton, Chris De Weaver, Adam Schiabor, Sean Daley, Lauren Moss & many other amazing people!!

In the US, there are some states leading the way in building sustainability. Some, not as much. I'm guessing that divide might get bigger. NY doing good. MA doing good. WA doing good. And in those states, there are some cities that are leading the way. They are legislating sustainable building, decarbonization, and electrification strategies. One city is ahead of them all. New York City. Today I was lucky enough to be in the room with many of the people that made that true. It was an honor to be there. I was at the Advanced Energy Group New York 25Q2 Building Decarb Summit. Many more people are needed to "make it around the corner" but being these people today makes me think we can do it. It inspires and motivates. Here are a few of the people who are making it happen. First and foremost, H.G. Chissell moderated masterfully. Truly. Today he was The Professor. And not the kind that lectures staring down at his notes. He as the kind you remember years later because he changed the way you think about stuff. He got 130 of us engaged. He kept the energy flowing (pun intended), and he kept the pace tight. Kudos! His refrain was, "What did you remember?" After each section, he'd ask for people to volunteer what stuck with them. It was great teaching! Ellen Honigstock wasn't exaggerating when she called him a "national treasure." Katie Schmid, Executive Director, Mayor's Office of Climate and Environmental Justice talked about Local Law 97 (LL97) and how it is reducing covered building emissions by 40% by 2030 and pushing toward carbon neutrality by 2050. By the way, LL97 is expected to create 141k jobs in the New York metro area. And by the way, these are jobs that will need training and learning programs. LET'S GO!!! Shaun A. Hoyte from Con Edison shared the history of the Decarb Summits, and his impressive insights on "heatpumpification" programs that are transforming how buildings are heated and cooled across the city. The whip-smart and impressive Silvia Khurrum, MS, MBA presented Con Edison's building decarbonization roadmap - practical, actionable steps that are already making a difference. She showed "lab to scale" tech using non-lithium cells for building energy storage. #iamabatterynerd I was also pleased to meetup with Angela N. Son, Founder of the Green Launch Pad. She runs a first-ever bootcamp helping workforce developers translate green policies into real jobs. Here is a fun fact from Aaron Miller at SHARC Energy: The heat from 1 million gallons of wastewater is equal to about 1 kilowatt of energy - and that can be recovered. That means NYC has hundreds of kilowatts of lost energy flowing beneath the ground. The tech from Sharc can harness it. For a given building, they can make enough energy only from the water that is used, flushed, and drained to make 91% of the NEW hot water for that building. There is so much more to share, so ask me! #BuildingDecarbonization #CleanEnergy #NY25Q2 #AEGNewYork #ClimateAction
