The Bridge Homelessness to Hope

The first quarter of 2025 has closed and we have our numbers in for visits to The Bridge. From the months of January to March 2025 The Bridge had 1720 visits. Compared to the 1378 visits from this time last year the increase of the use of our services is apparent. We felt safe because the campus had security people taking care of us and we were surrounded by like minded people. Last week a team from the Leicester office stepped out of their comfort zone and joined The Big Sleep to raise awareness and funds for the Leicester Office Charity of the Year The Bridge Homelessness to Hope, a fantastic charity who helps support those who are experiencing homelessness.   The team joined the charity in spending the night sleeping outside to highlight the everyday reality of what homeless people experience. Please spare a moment to look at a fundraiser organised by our very own Support Worker, Craig. By taking a leap of faith (of about 14,000 feet!) Craig and his family are raising awareness of Ataxia, a condition that causes cognitive issues such as loss of balance, speech changes, and a dysfunction of the nervous system. After watching his daughter suffer from Ataxia her entire life, Craig has pledged to raise money for Ataxia UK, a research and support service that helps families just like Craigs as they receive a diagnosis. Last week we slept out for the night in order to raise awareness and funds for The Bridge, and as we all laid down our heads we passed our target of £15,000! Thanks to so many generous donors, funds are still coming in, and we can’t express how grateful we are, but we’re going to try! Participating in The Big Sleep was an eye-opening experience. Even though it was just one night for me, sleeping outside in the cold was a horrible experience—uncomfortable, restless, and a stark reminder of the harsh reality that so many face every day. No one should have to endure homelessness, and this event reinforced how much more needs to be done to tackle this crisis. I’m grateful to have been part of this initiative, raising awareness and funds for The Bridge Homelessness to Hope.
