🚲 We’re getting into gear for some great causes! Two teams from Howes Percival will be taking on a charity cycle ride and will ride to our Leicester office. One team will set off from our Cambridge office and the other will set off from our Milton Keynes office, while picking up cyclists from our Northampton office along the way. Our cyclists will be putting in serious effort and covering a lot of miles. All of this will be to raise funds and awareness for our office charities, which make a real difference in our communities. We will be sharing updates along the way, so watch this space if you’d like to support the team and help us make an impact! #CharityRide #TeamHowesPercival #CommunitySupport #Fundraising

On 19 March 2025, renowned British fruit drinks brand Robinsons initiated a claim against supermarket Aldi in the High Court, accusing Aldi of trade mark infringement and passing off. Whilst details of the claim are not yet available, there are similarities in the appearance of Aldi’s ‘Sun Quench Squirty Squash’ and ‘Robinsons Mini’, an on-the-go miniature squash. In March 2025, Mariah Carey successfully defeated a US copyright infringement case over her hit 1994 single, “All I Want for Christmas is You”. Judge Almadani held that Carey’s track, and Vince Vance’s (“Vance”) 1989 song with the same title, “All I Want for Christmas is You”, were not substantially similar, noting differences in the melody, lyrics and musical elements. The Construction team at Howes Percival had the pleasure of touring the redevelopment of the historic Pilot House - a factory dating back to 1900 that's being transformed into a vibrant hub for creative, technical, and digital businesses. This blend of heritage and modern innovation is set to revitalise the Belvoir Street, Market Street, and New Walk areas within the Leicester City Centre. The Home Office has announced plans to tighten Right to Work rules by placing legal responsibility on businesses to check the status of all individuals working on their behalf, even if they are not directly employed. This proposed change would include those engaged via gig platforms, zero-hours contracts, or subcontracting arrangements but it will apply more broadly to anyone working in the name of the business, regardless of the contractual setup. It marks a significant shift from the current position, where the obligation to check typically only applies to direct employees. If implemented, businesses will need to carry out and evidence Right to Work checks across a much wider range of working relationships or risk substantial fines, enforcement action and reputational damage. Read our latest article to learn more about the proposals and what businesses should be doing now to prepare 👉 https://lnkd.in/emBjxcaM
