With the recent data sadly confirming that suicide is at its highest level for over 20 years, we need as many volunteers as possible to join in our commitment to support all that need it. Good morning All, Yesterday we enjoyed our 2nd Leicester Samaritans Business Club networking meeting. We felt that the meeting followed our ambitions of learning about the businesses in the room, and sharing information about what its really like being a Samaritans volunteer. Many thanks to Sandesh Jansari of Sharman Fielding Accountants; Sanjib Sahota of Sanjib 8 & Priti Coles - TRE trauma specialist - in standing up and taking centre stage to give us an insight into the work that you do. Particularly grateful for the offers of support that you all put forward whilst you were in the spotlight. The evening was very interactive between the speakers and members, and it did feel that the understanding of the role as a volunteer was very well conveyed by Sandesh; Fi & Kiran as well as a great session by our new director Dave Alexander. Personally, I thought it was great that so many questions were asked - it really did show an interest of those present for the work that the charity does. So thank you. As you all know, we are looking to encourage new volunteers. Leicester currently has 130. Ideally we would like to increase this to 180-200. So please spread the word. Over the next week or so, I'll be posting images that can be used as posters, so you can download and hang up in your businesses, community centres and networks. Please do so if you can, and if you do, please share in the group so we can give you an extra shout out!! So thank you to all that attended last night. We as a charity are so grateful. The work we do can be so critical to those that call us on 116123, and having more volunteers means we can support more. Next meeting is September - I'll keep you posted! We will be having a session on listening skills from one of our amazing trainers! So it's not to be missed!
