🚨 New Research Alert! 🚨 Have you ever wondered what makes historical photographic negatives so fragile? Our latest study takes a deep dive into their chemical composition and stratigraphic structure using cutting-edge multi-analytical techniques! Our research, which was part of the Giovanisì - Regione Toscana funded project #DIAGNOSE, contributes to understanding the degradation mechanisms of these historical photographic negatives and helps conservators develop better conservation strategies. A team of researchers in Florence observed the formation of #quantumdroplet arrays in ultra-cold atom mixtures. This phenomenon is caused by surface tension, leading to the breakup of atomic filaments into droplets. The study, published in American Physical Society (Physical Review Letters), advances our understanding of quantum liquids and the development of new "atomic" technologies. Osservata la prima “pioggia quantistica” Si tratta della formazione di file di gocce quantistiche (#QuantumDroplets) in miscele di atomi ultrafreddi. Il fenomeno è stato osservato da un team di ricercatori e ricercatrici del #Cnr, dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze, del Laboratorio europeo di spettroscopie non lineare #Lens e del laboratorio di miscele quantistiche del CNR-INO ed è dovuto alla tensione superficiale che, analogamente a quanto osservato nei liquidi classici, provoca la rottura di un filamento atomico in gocce per minimizzare la superficie di interfaccia. Lo studio, pubblicato su Physical Review Letters, costituisce un passo in avanti nella conoscenza dei liquidi quantistici e nello sviluppo di nuove tecnologie “atomiche”. Climate Changes and Scent Heritage: The Urgent Need for Capturing and Preserving Olfactory Landscapes in a Changing World – SCENTINEL, co-funded by the Joint Programming Initiative on Cultural Heritage and Global Change
Did you know that climate change is threatening not just landscapes and ecosystems but also our olfactory and flavour heritage? The SCENTINEL project (Climate Changes and Scent Heritage: The Urgent Need for Capturing and Preserving Olfactory Landscapes in a Changing World) is dedicated to safeguarding the scents that define cultures, traditions, and natural environments. Thes project is co-funded by JPI Cultural Heritage and Global Change, JPI Climate, and the Belmont Forum. Through interdisciplinary research combining neuroscience, cultural studies, and advanced technology SCENTINEL is developing innovative tools to capture, digitize, and preserve endangered scents and flavours.
