We are glad to share that the paper “Frequency-bin entanglement-based Quantum Key Distribution” has been published in NPJ Quantum Information, part of Nature Portfolio. This study demonstrates a new application of quantum key distribution (#QKD) using frequency-bin encoding, instead of the more common polarization or time-bin schemes. The researchers implemented the #BBM92 protocol with photon pairs generated by ring resonators on a silicon chip, achieving stable transmission over 26 km of optical fiber. To compensate for phase noise caused by thermal fluctuations, they developed a real-time correction, achieving a secure key rate of at least 4.5 bits per second. The work thus introduces a new degree of freedom for the implementation of entanglement-based QKD protocols in existing telecommunications networks. In the document, the #QUIC industry community outlines strategic #recommendations to strengthen Europe’s leadership in #quantum technologies, with a dedicated focus on advancing #quantumcommunication and #quantumcryptography as pillars of future secure infrastructures. As a member of QUIC, it was a pleasure for us to gather with its industry community to shape guidelines in view of developing more robust, scalable, and secure quantum networks across Europe.
