Revealing the Colors of the Past through Science We are proud to announce that NCSR "DEMOKRITOS" is actively participating in the interdisciplinary research project ReVis, which digitally reconstructs and scientifically investigates the Hunt Frieze from Tomb II in Vergina — the largest surviving painting of Classical Antiquity and one of the most important masterpieces ever discovered from the ancient Greek world. 📍 Located at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aigai, the monumental fresco once adorned the façade of the royal tomb of Philip II of Macedon. 📅 On April 5, 2025, the international workshop “The Aigai Hunt Frieze Revealed: An Interdisciplinary Investigation and Digital Reconstruction” will take place at the Aigai Museum, unveiling the project’s results to the public and scholarly community. 🔬 The project combines non-invasive diagnostic methods (MAXRF, XRD), archaeometric analysis, AI-assisted digital reconstruction, and artistic recomposition to bring this 4th-century BCE masterpiece back to life — in full scale and vivid color.
