Earlier this year, wildfires in Los Angeles caused widespread destruction, displacing families and damaging homes, schools, and businesses. In response, ULI Los Angeles, UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate, and the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate have released Project Recovery—a comprehensive roadmap to guide rebuilding efforts and strengthen the city’s long-term resilience. Approximately 100 leading experts, including ULI members, specializing in land use, real estate, infrastructure, and economic development have volunteered their time and expertise to the report – offering best practices and actionable recommendations to not only accelerate the recovery process in LA but also serve as a blueprint to help cities navigate recovery when impacted by climate-related disasters. This effort was made possible by the generous contributions of ULI members through the ULI Foundation. Read our press release here: https://ow.ly/kKRt50Vo7oC

  • India’s urbanisation story presents a unique opportunity to rewrite the path to sustainable city development. The recent ULI India conference at Mumbai provided insights on how the world’s fastest growing major economy can decarbonise its urban growth while attracting sustainable investment models.   Here are the key takeaways: · 🚇Transit-Oriented Development is key: By 2030, urban India will house 40% of population, generating 70% of emissions. Cities prioritising mobility and mixed-use planning will lead in livability and resilience. · 🏢Green buildings gaining momentum, but gaps remain: With an undersupply of ESG-aligned office in cities, scaling sustainable design across all asset classes is critical to match the country's growing global profile. · 📜Policy frameworks need teeth:  While national climate goals are ambitious, real estate sector needs defined mandates for operational and embodied carbon to drive impact. · 🌏Localised, climate-smart solution hold the key:  India's traditional climate-responsive architecture, adaptive-reuse models, and lessons from successful Asian cities like Singapore and Tokyo can inspire scalable, region-specific, low-carbon urban solutions. Increased investor engagement is crucial to accelerating this shift.   This is a defining moment for India’s built environment. The choices made today will determine whether Indian cities become global benchmarks for sustainability—or fall into the carbon trap of rapid urbanization.   What strategies do you think will shape India’s low-carbon future? Join the conversation in the comments! ⤵ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gxiyVUee
