Richard Wood, Managing Director Asia, is invited to give a keynote presentation at The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) National Convention 2025 on April 9. Titled "Space for Celebration?", Richard's sharing will explore the transformative power of architecture in shaping spaces that celebrate life, culture, and community. At Snøhetta, we believe in creating environments that inspire connection and foster a sense of belonging. From the iconic Norwegian Opera and Ballet, where the city meets the fjord, to the serene underwater dining experience at "Under" in Norway, to Times Square where the city has been radically transformed to allow for civic life, our projects are a testament to the harmony between nature, design, and human experience. In Asia, our work continues to push boundaries. The Shibuya Upper West Project in Tokyo reimagines urban living by blending vibrant cultural spaces with serene retreats, embodying the duality of Tokyo's energy and tranquility. Similarly, the AIRSIDE mixed-use project in Hong Kong integrates sustainable practices with dynamic public spaces, setting a new standard for urban development. These projects, alongside others like the Beijing Library, showcase our commitment to designing for the future while honoring local traditions. Through this lecture, Richard will delve into the stories behind these spaces, exploring how thoughtful design can celebrate life in all its forms. Om oss
Snøhetta is an international integrated architecture and design firm. The practice has a global presence, with offices spanning from Oslo, Paris, and Innsbruck, to New York, San Francisco. Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Adelaide and Melbourne. Snøhetta kick-started its career in 1989 with the competition-winning entry for the new library of Alexandria, Egypt. This was later followed by the commission for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion at the World Trade Center in New York City, among many others. Since its inception, the practice has maintained its original transdisciplinary approach, and integrates architectural, landscape, interior, product, graphic, digital design and art across its projects. The collaborative nature between Snøhetta's different disciplines is an essential driving force of the practice. Snøhetta is currently working on a wide range of international projects, including the Ordrupgaard Art Museum expansion in Denmark and the Shanghai Grand Opera House. Recently completed works include Le Monde Group Headquarters in Paris, Europe’s first underwater restaurant, Under, the redesign of the public space in Times Square, the expansion to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Lascaux IV: The International Centre for Cave Art, Powerhouse Brattørkaia and the design for Norway’s new banknotes. Snøhetta’s working method practices a simultaneous exploration of traditional handicraft and cutting-edge digital technology. At the heart of all Snøhetta’s work lies a commitment to social and environmental sustainability, shaping the built environment and design in the service of humanism. Snøhetta believes well-conceived design can help things run more efficiently, improve people’s well-being and make life more enjoyable. Every project is designed with strong, meaningful concepts in mind – concepts that can translate the ethos of its users and their context.

We are happy to share that Snøhetta, alongside renowned Dutch firm Benthem Crouwel Architects, have been announced as part of the team to design the new House of Culture and Administration in the city of Delfzijl in the Netherlands. The project is dedicated to delivering an iconic cultural gathering place for the historic city of Delfzijl, shaped by its maritime heritage and created for its people. "We see an opportunity to co-create a building that brings Delfzijl’s unique vibrancy and spirit to the forefront. This is as much a win for architecture itself as it is for Snøhetta and Benthem Crouwel—a testament to how design can reflect identity, foster connection, and support the communities it serves. Together with the municipality, we look forward to shaping a building and a hopeful and meaningful future," says Kathleen Cayetano, Snøhetta Senior Architect and Project Lead. Last chance to see the “People and the Library of Alexandria” exhibition in Oslo! Bibliotheca Alexandrina - مكتبة الإسكندرية is more than just a building; it is a living space influenced by the people who visit, learn, and contribute to its ongoing legacy. Through personal narratives, images, and voices, our exhibition highlights the deep connection between architecture and human experience. By exploring the social impact of this defining project for Snøhetta, the exhibition illustrates how the library has affected the lives of individuals and communities. It celebrates the library as both a vibrant communal space and a beacon of knowledge. The exhibition features a large handmade model and a collection of photographs, artefacts, and historical documents from Snøhetta’s archives. Visit our Archive Gallery on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM until April 8, or by appointment, before the exhibition moves on to Abu Dhabi. Redevelopment of the Place de la Concorde - Congratulations to the team led by AAPP / Atelier d'architecture Philippe Prost et Bruel Delmar on winning the tender for the redevelopment of the Place de la Concorde. We are honoured to have been selected to compete and proud to share our vision. Based on the historical composition of this extraordinary place, the project proposed in particular to : 🚗Remove all private vehicles from the square by re-establishing a historic alleyway 🚲Devoting the entire square to pedestrians and soft mobility (buses, taxis, bicycles, etc.) to create a generous public space accessible to all 🌿Restore the historic ditches to a slightly lower level, enabling the creation of new landscaped areas on the scale of Parisian squares 💧Removing the waterproofing and planting the square with a water-saving, low-maintenance proposal 📍To create a square where everything is possible: a place dedicated to large gatherings as well as everyday events. Thanks to all the team who worked with us on this project: Chatillon Architectes, Louis Benech, Systematica, setec tpi, Atelier Franck Boutté, Phytoconseil, CRONOS CONSEIL, Agence 8'18'', Manifesto. #snøhetta #chatillonarchitectes #paris #placedelaconcorde
