Our colleagues Mikael Kamp Sørensen and Caroline Tessier are now in Paris, representing DHI as part of the Danish delegation at the state visit to France. The event was kicked off yesterday with a welcome briefing for all participants at the beautiful Maison du Danemark in Paris, where the participants introduced themselves and their companies. The state visit has three focus themes: Defence, Health and Energy, and DHI is in the Energy track. For over 30 years, DHI has contributed to more than 80% of all built offshore wind farms worldwide, starting with the world's first offshore wind farm in Denmark. We see renewable energy as an indispensable part of a resilient future. Mikael and Caroline will be taking part in several energy-focused sessions and roundtable discussions during the next couple of days. The heading of the event is ‘France-Denmark: A European partnership for a resilient future’. The event is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the Ambassade du Danemark en France – The Danish Embassy in France together with the organisations Danish Industry, the Danish Chamber of Commerce Dansk Erhverv and Danish Shipping. #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #SectorCoupling #Partnerships #Resilience #danishstatevisit2025 State of Green Denmark Photo credit: Julien Mouffron-Gardner and Emmanuel Aguirre

In some areas, existing systems, designed for a different era and needs, must be adapted to address urban development and certain impacts of climate change, such as increasing pressure on water resources. Faced with rising demand, issues of water losses within the network and the challenge of optimising distribution in areas with varied topography, the city decided to adopt a sustainable water management approach. 💧❄️𝘿𝙃𝙄 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 '𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧' 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙮, 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝘿𝙖𝙮!🌨️🌊 World Water Day is a United Nations observance held annually on 𝟮𝟮 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 and this year’s theme is ‘𝙂𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣’—a critical focus on the preservation of glaciers and their vital role in sustaining water resources for billions of people around the world. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀? Glacial meltwater is vital for drinking water, irrigation, clean energy production and maintaining healthy ecosystems. However, due to climate change, glaciers are melting at an accelerated rate, disrupting global water flows and increasing the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs). These floods can cause catastrophic downstream flooding with devastating consequences. To address this, glacier preservation must be at the core of climate change strategies. 🌍🛰️𝗗𝗛𝗜 𝗺𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 As part of the European Space Agency - ESA funded project #WorldWater, DHI is leveraging satellite data to monitor and address the growing threat of glacial lake outburst floods, a critical issue for regions like Greenland. By using satellite technology, DHI and partners are helping to map and track the location and frequency of these glacial lakes, providing crucial data on the scale and potential impact of GLOFs. This is key for understanding and mitigating their severe effects on ecosystems and human communities. Christian Tøttrup, Senior Project Manager at DHI’s Earth Observation Centre of Excellence, explains, ‘Earth observation technology provides a low-cost and accessible method for monitoring surface water dynamics at all scales, and can support physical planning, emergency preparedness and climate change studies globally, including in Greenland. ‘By using satellite data and tools, national stakeholders will be better equipped to plan for glacial lake outburst floods, helping to reduce their risk and impact, and benefiting infrastructure, tourism and the broader economy’, he adds. 💡Curious about this project?
