Did you know we care for and manage 4.2 hectares of wild national park in the Serra da Abelheira, in the south of Portugal? This land, once devastated by the fires of 2017, has been our focus for restoration and replanting. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that planting is easy—keeping young trees alive through some of the hottest summers in recent years is the real challenge. To give these trees a fighting chance, we’ve invested in machinery to dig deeper holes with looser soil, significantly improving their chances of survival. It’s a labour of love and a continuous learning journey. We feel incredibly privileged to be the guardians of this beautiful wild space and are committed to restoring it to its natural, thriving state. Our Team loves to get out of the office and head to the hills.

At SUBMON, we're committed to bridging the gap between local communities and #MarineConservation 💙 Our involvement in the #SHOREproject at Pérez Sala School in Vilassar de Mar (a fishing village in Catalonia) exemplifies this commitment: supported by the SEA2SEE Project and BiodivOcean ERASMUS+ projects, this initiative integrates #OceanLiteracy into the school's curriculum through a "Blue Calendar" of activities. 🌊🎒🐟 These include field trips, interactive workshops and cooking sessions, as well as citizen science projects, all designed to deepen #students' understanding of the vital connection between land and sea. 🔄 By engaging students with their local environment, we're fostering a sense of stewardship that ensures the preservation of both cultural traditions and marine ecosystems. 📍 The ideal setting of Pérez Sala School, located in a coastal community rich in #fishing traditions and natural heritage, provides students with a tangible and practical understanding of how actions on land impact the marine environment. But our involvement in the SHORE Project doesn’t stop at the local level! 🇪🇺 By aligning the actions within the Mission Ocean, and building synergies through the other European projects involved, we’re amplifying the action's impact across borders 🌍💪 Together with our partners and the school community, we will continue working to build a sustainable marine future! 🌍 Empowering Conservationists Worldwide 🌱 When we first started out, we mainly trained conservationists in the UK. Fast forward to today, and I’m proud to share that we’re now reaching and supporting incredible conservationists all over the world. This past year, we’ve made a big push to support conservationists in Africa, and the impact has been inspiring. Our updated map now shows the amazing individuals we’ve certified with key conservation skills—spanning across the continent and making a tangible difference for nature. But our journey doesn’t stop here. One of our biggest challenges is reaching conservationists in regions where different languages are spoken, such as French, Spanish, and Portuguese. These geographies remain underserved, but they’re next on our list. We’re committed to making our training, best practices, and resources accessible to even more conservationists globally, so they too can lead efforts to restore and protect our planet. Together, we’re building a movement where everyone, everywhere, has the knowledge, skills, and network they need to make a meaningful impact for nature. 🌿 https://lnkd.in/ewU3itQK #Conservation #GlobalImpact #TrainingLeaders #WildlifeConservation #Sustainability #WildTeam

🌿🌏 Celebrating World Mangrove Day: A Commitment to Education & Restoration 🌏🌿 Today, on World Mangrove Day, we acknowledge the immense value of mangrove ecosystems to our planet. Mangroves protect shorelines from erosion, support rich biodiversity, and serve as crucial carbon sinks in the fight against climate change. At the Living Oceans Foundation, we are deeply committed to the conservation and restoration of mangrove forests. Through our Jamaica Awareness of Mangroves in Nature (J.A.M.I.N.) and Bahamas Awareness of Mangroves (B.A.M.) programs, we educate students and inspire future environmental leaders to understand and protect these vital ecosystems. Join us in celebrating World Mangrove Day by learning more about mangrove forests and how we are working to conserve them. Together, we can make a difference for a sustainable future. #WorldMangroveDay #MangroveConservation #LivingOceansFoundation #Sustainability #EcosystemRestoration #EnvironmentalEducation

We were delighted to host the Detroit Zoo Conservation Interns at Matthaei Botanical Gardens! This program empowers high school students from the greater Detroit area to explore environmental issues, environmental justice, and community collaborations to become environmental stewards and leaders for the future. These teens are building skills and connections in the green industry while earning wages that value their time and talents. During their visit, the interns collected data on rare plants in our conservatory, using the IUCN Red List to analyze geographic ranges, habitats, and threats. They also sketched plant characteristics and brainstormed actionable conservation strategies, contributing to a growing body of knowledge that will inform future workshops and initiatives. Programs like this are vital for nurturing the next generation of conservation leaders and ensuring the green industry is more inclusive and equitable.
