Many companies offer internships to fill in for vacationing staff and complete interesting projects. Interns and companies size up the other, wondering if there’s a fit for the future. This programme helps to deliver the Bristol City Office (Bristol One City) Plan to address inequalities, social mobility and skills shortages. I thought it was a mistake when Procter & Gamble paid the full stipend for my summer internship within the 1st week of joining itself. I wondered, how could they pay when I haven't worked to earn it yet? What if someone just slacked throughout the internship? When I asked my guide about this, he said, "when we have hired you, we TRUST you to do the right thing." I was amazed as I had never seen this before. The company was ready to trust even its interns with the entire payment upfront. Somehow, it instilled a sense of increased responsibility within me to live up to the company's trust. I would have worked hard anyway, however this gesture made me more accountable and I worked with an increased vigor. I realized that when the company shows such faith, you are bound to perform at your peak. What do you think? Do share in comments! To those who have begun the search for summer interns, this is one of the first things I plan to share with my interns: I will scrutinize your work a lot harder than I would for an employee, because my goal is not to just get it done. My goal is to provide you an experience that makes you the best possible person at it. You will most likely get twice the criticism and accolades you would if you were a paid employee. That will taper off as you get better, but only as you get better.  You will also be provided a list of the skills you acquire and how to articulate them on your resume when you apply.
