A Friendly Reminder to Companies Hosting Interns. To all the amazing companies out there offering internship opportunities—first off, thank you for giving students the chance to learn and grow in a real-world environment. However, there’s a concern that needs to be addressed. It’s been over 1.5 months, and one of my friend have yet to receive their stipends. This is more than just a delay—it’s a significant challenge for many of these young professionals. Remember, most interns are students, and they rely on timely payments to cover their basic needs, whether it’s transportation, meals, or other expenses. A delayed payment can put them in a tough spot, affecting their productivity and overall experience. 💼 So here’s a gentle reminder: please prioritize paying your interns on time. It’s a simple act of respect and appreciation for the effort they’re putting in, and it speaks volumes about your company’s Thank you!

Y'all know how I feel about this topic and how I been feeling. It's 2024... ANY job at ANY level in this field should be posting salaries. That's it. It shouldn't be a potential/interested employee having to reach out to HR or someone they know at this org to get something as simple as a SALARY RANGE POSTED. And yes, the outrageous salary ranges listed sometimes is a whole nother issue we'll talk about later lol but for now, it's been overdue. Regardless if you're a public sector planner, private, non-profit, development side, or whichever side the salary should be posted, the conversation around it should be transparent, and YOU shouldn't have to ask about it in the interview. Minor change that holds BIG weight on the next generation of planning professionals. https://lnkd.in/gH_445Fc Adrienne Burke, AICP, Esq. Sarah Marsom 🏁

This is a light lift y'all. Anyone telling you anything else or you believing that you can't do this, is no longer an excuse. I have more thoughts to come on this, but I want to lift up this effort to make sure APA is making sure folks post accurate salary ranges and paid internships only. Let me say it one more time that I don't think any of this is in the least bit disrespectful. We have to get our financial accountings and our balance sheets and our pro formas in order. You will not get away with not doing so forever. So, here's the website that has all of the receipts and actions that can be taken to make sure this changes -- https://lnkd.in/gd5WWCZW.

To those who have begun the search for summer interns, this is one of the first things I plan to share with my interns: I will scrutinize your work a lot harder than I would for an employee, because my goal is not to just get it done. My goal is to provide you an experience that makes you the best possible person at it. You will most likely get twice the criticism and accolades you would if you were a paid employee. That will taper off as you get better, but only as you get better. You will also be provided a list of the skills you acquire and how to articulate them on your resume when you apply.

🎉 Happy National Intern Day! 🎉 Today, we celebrate the incredible contributions and boundless energy that interns bring to the workplace. Interns are future leaders, innovators, and change-makers, and their hard work deserves recognition and respect. 💡 Let's talk about the importance of **paying interns**. 💡 1️⃣ Valuing Talent: Interns bring fresh perspectives, new skills, and a willingness to learn. Paying them is a recognition of their value and the contributions they make. 2️⃣ Equity and Access: Unpaid internships often limit opportunities to those who can afford to work without compensation. By paying interns, we ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial background, has access to valuable work experiences. 3️⃣ Building Loyalty: Compensated interns feel valued and respected, which fosters loyalty and a positive relationship with the company. This can lead to long-term employment and growth within the organization. 4️⃣ Professional Development: Paid internships allow interns to focus on their professional development without the stress of financial instability. This creates a more productive and enriching experience for both the intern and the employer. 5️⃣ Setting a Standard: When we pay interns, we set a standard for fair labor practices across industries. It's a commitment to ethical practices and investing in the future workforce. On this National Intern Day, let’s pledge to support and uplift our interns by ensuring they receive the compensation they deserve. Together, we can create a more inclusive, fair, and dynamic workforce. ✨ Thank you to all the amazing interns out there! Your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed. ✨ #NationalInternDay #PayInterns #FutureLeaders #WorkplaceEquity #FairLaborPractices

It's Friday, do you know what your intern weekend policy is? Meaning, do you want know what the Saturday policy is and have interns been encouraged to follow it? If you're not sure, here are people to ask (and yes, you should clarify): 1. Your buddy (typically a second year Analyst) 2. Your staffer 3. Teams you are staffed with (ask how to proceed w/weekend requests) Make sure you not only know the weekend policy, but the expectations of the team with whom you have staffings. - If they have a major meeting Monday, they might need all hands on deck - If they have a bake off Tuesday, they may need you for a big portion - If you are waiting on comments, you can ask when it's appropriate to respond You can never be TOO over communicative. So clarify needs over every weekend of your internship without jeopardizing your experience and ignoring policies that are in place.
