This is a huge step forward for wireless charging and for the Port of Long Beach. Wireless charging is an amazing application for environments where electrified vehicles are constantly on the move and require a much more fluid charging solution than the traditional wall or inground mounted charging station.. #InductEv is the ideal partner for the port of Long Beach, given their long history and technology with inductive charging. ITS America’s Automated Vehicle Freight Working Group has released AV Freight recommendations to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA). Commercial freight is set to emerge in late 2024 and 2025, and additional use cases like driverless shuttles and intercity trucking are also on the horizon. While much of the guidance is still relevant, there remain a few aspects such as remote assistance, emerging industry best practices, and response to public safety officials that could benefit from specific inclusion or updates in the ADS guidance. Based on technical input from a wide variety of stakeholders, including an ITS America member survey on the topic, the ITS America Automated Vehicle Freight Working Group makes the following recommendations regarding NHTSA’s AV Guidance.

TLDR: it’s the cost, stupid. But more specially it’s inequities re charging points. “While generation one of EV policy proved electric vehicles could work, it made no systematic effort to deal with the situations where take-up was harder… The challenge for policymakers has changed. It is no longer a matter of making the first electric cars succeed. The Port of Long Beach is set to enhance its electric cargo handling operations with the installation of hands-free wireless chargers from InductEV. This initiative is part of a $3.3 million grant awarded by the California Energy Commission (CEC) to International Transportation Service, LLC (ITS), aimed at demonstrating innovative charging solutions for medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles (MD/HD EVs). 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8ZUdF5q

Battery and hydrogen fuel cell specialist Corvus Energy has been awarded DNV Type Approval for its Pelican Fuel Cell System, which will see vehicle manufacturer Toyota’s fuel cell technology used to enhance the provision of battery electric vessels for the marine market. The automotive industry is making rapid advances with development of electric vehicles and the potential environmental and efficiency wins has naturally not gone unnoticed in the world of shipping. Battery-electric technology in the form of all-electric and hybrid is now a regular feature with new ships of all sizes, so a sharing of automotive industry knowledge with the marine sector can be seen as a natural development. The Corvus Pelican Fuel Cell System was developed through the three-year H2NOR project and claims to be the first fuel cell system designed to be inherently gas-safe, ‘making it the safest fuel cell system in the market’, according to Corvus. Positive progress is reported with the first installation ready for the fishing and training vessel Skulebas, owned by Vestland County and operated by Måløy Upper Secondary School in Norway. The 35m long vessel already has a 1MWh battery system and by adding the Pelican Fuel Cell System and hydrogen storage, Skulebas will be able to operate for four days with zero emissions, says Corvus.
