I've known David Rae, co-founder + Curator of TEDxPortland, for the past 7 years and I have mad respect for Dave and how he's 1,000% in on community and making heart-felt connections in our beloved city. TEDxPortland and Dave embody the brand of Portland - incredible creative talent, entrepreneurial, great energy, hipster professional, pretty outdoorsy, and all heart. Thesis Headquarters, designed by LEVER, is a 40,000-square-foot office building in Portland, Oregon, designed to accommodate hybrid work with a flexible layout. The mass timber structure features Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) panels and glulam columns, fabricated by Timberlab, highlighting the use of sustainable and regional materials. The building’s LEED Gold design includes ample daylight, energy-efficient systems, and on-site solar panels. The project integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, connecting the building to both its urban and natural surroundings. LEVER’s design incorporates a ground-floor all-hands space for events and gatherings, supporting collaboration and community interaction. As a part of our We Believe in Portland video interviews, I chatted with Portland Mayor Keith Wilson about his plan to end unsheltered homelessness in Portland, Oregon. The progress that he's made in just 5 weeks on the job wildly exceeded my expectations. As a goal-oriented, metrics-driven business person, I wanted to know step-by-step how we as private citizens can help the Mayor accomplish his goal this year of 1,500 beds at night shelters and 600 units at day shelters across all four quadrants of the city. The Mayor has a solid answer and early wins tracking towards success, and Lance Orton, Executive Director of CityTeam Portland shares his optimism for being part of the solution by adding 110-120 beds in a shelter and addiction recovery services in his new building in Old Town by Sept of this year. The project prioritizes collaboration and hybrid work, integrating “mid-door” spaces that bring nature indoors and connecting to nearby Forest Park. The space at the ground level supports gatherings and events, creating connections with the surrounding community.
