For the past three years TEDxPortland has made a concerted effort to prioritize well-being, mental health, and movement for our Volunteers, Alumni, Speakers & Performers. The Be Well Initiative was established in the Fall of 2022, and thanks to our partners at Knot Springs, Modo Yoga Portland, and Timberline Lodge our initiative has become a reality. In an effort to shine a light on the ripple effect that TEDxPortland has outside of our April Event Day, we are proud to present the Community Impact Series. This first feature showcases the remarkable work of a social studies teacher in eastern Oregon, Zach Brandsen. The Nixyáawii Community School on the Umatilla Indian Reservation has attended every TEDxPortland event since 2018. Over 100 high school students from Nixyáawii have been inspired to embrace lifelong learning and servant leadership in our auditorium. Little did we know the transformative impact it had and continues to have on these young leaders. TEDxPortland is more than one educational, inspirational day in the Spring and stretches well beyond the city limits of Portland. It is a commitment to lifelong learning and being engaged, committed citizens. Share your stories with us so we can potentially showcase you.
