More exciting news! 🎉 I’m thrilled to share that I’ve completed an educational workshop series with Project for Public Spaces! This milestone (in addition to attending Making It Public with Forecast Public Art earlier this year) reaffirms my commitment to integrating these transformative principles into the arts and culture sector. Arts and cultural institutions hold immense potential as public spaces—places where people gather, share stories, and co-create meaning. By applying the principles of creative placemaking, we can intentionally design these spaces to be inclusive, vibrant, and deeply connected to the communities they serve. But it doesn't stop there—cultural placekeeping reminds us to honor, sustain, and uplift the rich cultural legacies that make these spaces thrive. Imagine arts institutions not just as performance venues but as dynamic community centers, fostering dialogue, creativity, and belonging. From hosting neighborhood events to facilitating intergenerational storytelling, the possibilities are endless when we center people and their lived experiences. I’m eager to continue exploring how these frameworks can reimagine arts institutions as hubs of connection, healing, and equity. How do we prepare for a community space in which culture, radical hospitality and architecture are crafted to meet the moment?In 2024, the MAIA team are making a fundamental shift, to step into the next stages of making transformative cultural infrastructure tangible. We’re working on a spatial justice proposal to move land from a private commodity into a community entity, held in perpetuity for Black thrivance.*Through this platform, we will create ABUELOS, a cultural centre with accommodation, as a site of radical hospitality and artistry. This is not speculative. Working closely with visionary and brilliant collaborators, from our community, to the design team, to artists-in-residence, to legal, finance and governance partners, we are excitedly embarking on the next phase of the journey to materialise this space and are looking for co-conspirators to organise with. The age of the #synersphery is dawning ;). A synersphery is the new kind of platform. A co-creative gathering that is not defined by one specific format, one particular goal or outcome. Rather it's facilitated radically through intention, framing, space and amtosphere. It's the #reconaissance that for a true #renaissance we need to gather. cross-polinate. laugh. experiment. dance. co-create. These gatherings are not easy to communicate. Many people just "know" and "understand". They resonate with the unpredictability, complexity and multiplicity of experience that is made possible. But for many minds, when the question of what these festivals aim to create is left unanswered, they remain a mystery better to be avoided. In essence it's the difference between increasing possibilities vs. managing outcomes. It's the mindset/worldview shift from controlling process to caring for the conditions in which processes (of all sorts, on all levels & dimensions) can happen. This is what we aim to create with the #miniZuekunftFestival, the #AgoraDerZukunftsvögel and our other events with festivitas.space.
