As a part of our We Believe in Portland video interviews, I chatted with Portland Mayor Keith Wilson about his plan to end unsheltered homelessness in Portland, Oregon. The progress that he's made in just 5 weeks on the job wildly exceeded my expectations. As a goal-oriented, metrics-driven business person, I wanted to know step-by-step how we as private citizens can help the Mayor accomplish his goal this year of 1,500 beds at night shelters and 600 units at day shelters across all four quadrants of the city. The Mayor has a solid answer and early wins tracking towards success, and Lance Orton, Executive Director of CityTeam Portland shares his optimism for being part of the solution by adding 110-120 beds in a shelter and addiction recovery services in his new building in Old Town by Sept of this year.
