🌍 Earth Month Project Feature: Orchard Beach Pavilion 🌍 The restoration of this historic 1936 Bronx landmark, a project with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, goes beyond sustainability using regenerative construction techniques. Check out the details on our green building efforts below! Key Regenerative Techniques: ➡️ Historic Material Reuse: Extensive reuse of limestone cladding panels, granite and bluestone pavers, and terra cotta façade panels. ➡️ Innovative Repairs: Techniques like pin repairs and Dutchman repairs to restore damaged panels, maintaining the original design. ➡️ Sustainable Practices: Replacing all trees removed during construction to comply with NYC's forestry requirements. This project was designed with sustainability at its core, aiming for Parksmart Gold certification. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲: ➡️ EV Charging Stations: 45 stations installed, with infrastructure for future expansion to 165 parking spaces. ➡️ Bike & Scooter Storage: Space for 88 bikes and scooters, promoting eco-friendly transportation. ➡️ Stormwater Management: 18,000 cubic feet of stormwater infiltration tanks to eliminate runoff and harvest rainwater for landscape irrigation. ➡️ Heat Reduction: Reflecting sidewalks and roof to minimize heat absorption. ➡️ Locally Sourced Materials: Use of aluminum and asphalt sourced locally to reduce carbon footprint. ➡️ Low/No VOC Coatings: Environmentally friendly coatings, paints, and sealants to ensure healthy indoor air quality. #EarthMonth #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #SustainableConstruction

UVA’s cutting-edge School of Data Science building, completed in 2024, embodies innovation and collaboration. Designed by Hopkins Architects, VMDO Architects, and the University’s Office of the Architect, this four-story, 61,000 SF building features sustainable design, open hallways, research and meeting areas, and adaptive classrooms.
