Our founder and CEO, Mert Akin, Ph.D. ⚡️, attended the CERAWeek by S&P Global with fellow energy innovators, investors, and corporate executives in Houston, TX, last week!⚡ We had the privilege of presenting EELI Technology and engaging with pioneers shaping the future of #energy, #criticalminerals, and #lithium. It was an invaluable opportunity to exchange insights on advancing a resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem 🌏

Had an incredible time last week at the 43rd annual CERAWeek in Houston, TX! ⚡️ It was an honor to witness U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Chris Wright deliver the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of supporting U.S. domestic energy production and strengthening energy security. One of the key highlights was the discussion with Daniel Yergin, where the Secretary underscored the vital role of government labs and scientists—and the essential partnership between the private sector and national labs—in driving U.S. leadership in energy innovation. At EELI Technology, we are proud to be based at Berkeley Lab, supported by Activate and Cyclotron Road, where we are developing next-generation critical mineral and lithium recovery solutions to unlock the full potential of American resources. Cheesecake Energy Ltd, with their "eTanker energy storage system is a stationary, medium to long-duration energy storage solution ... stores energy in the form of heat and pressurized air, re-tasking ex-service truck engines to become zero-emission electrical power-conversion machines for putting energy into storage and recovering it from storage." ... with Michael Simpson I met with Mert Akin, Ph.D. ⚡️from EELI Technology, electrifying the extraction of #Lithium ... develops chemical-free lithium extraction & purification solutions ... leveraging breakthroughs in electrochemistry & material science tech ... Benjamin Weiner from ARPA-E deliver a faciniating session on "#Quantum Computing for Energy Innovation". Providing a great overview on the current state of the technology, on the opportunity Quantum will bring for certain use cases, but also a great dose of realism that while quantum will do amazing things, we will still need the 'classical' computers to do a lot of the usual compute we need in workflows. Also the fact that for some algorithms, you will need 1000's of qubits ... 🤔 And Zachary Berquist from ARPA-E presenting on "From Fission to Fuels : Advancing industry with advanced reactors" ... on how #SMR's could also deliver high temperature heat ... and when combined with new chemical reactors, it's an opportunity to rethink/redesign refineries. They’re developing new ways to recycle materials, lower energy costs, improve how we access and use metals and minerals, and more. Check out these innovators who are reimagining how we source our most important materials. 🌟 Still Bright/Jon Vardner is transforming copper extraction with localized, cost-effective technology. Last fall, Still Bright was a winner of the World Economic Forum Uplink’s Sustainable Mining Challenge, which recognizes the most innovative and disruptive technologies around the world. 🔋 Lithios/Mohammad A. Alkhadra is using breakthroughs in applied electrochemistry to extract lithium from untapped brine resources, and secured a $12M seed round last fall led by Clean Energy Ventures with participation from TechEnergy Ventures and GS Futures as well as Lowercarbon Capital and MassCEC. 🪨 Sunchem/Daniel T. Sun, BLUUMBIO/Katherine French, and Vycarb/Garrett Boudinot were selected for the inaugural cohort of the Rio Tinto Mining Tech accelerator in partnership with Founders Factory, focused on decarbonizing mining. More Activate Fellows to watch: Brendan Smith of SiTration, Inc. is developing a solution for the low-cost sustainable extraction of critical materials in the lithium-ion battery recycling process. Alexa Schmitz of REEgen engineers microbes to cleanly and sustainably recycle rare earth elements in the United States. Gustavo Marquez, P. Eng (company in Stealth) is rethinking sustainable mining by developing technologies to upgrade mine waste into new streams of value. Nathan Good, PhD/RareTerra Inc. provides simple, low-cost, environmentally-friendly biomining and concentration of rare earth metals from low-grade and waste materials. Mert Akin, Ph.D. ⚡️/EELI Technology develops advanced lithium extraction and purification solutions to enable sustainable and feasible lithium production from untapped domestic sources.
