"We want to win this AI race — or at least stay in the lead," says Energy Secretary Chris Wright. As part of a national initiative to expand AI infrastructure, the U.S. government is considering metro Denver as the site for a new private data center and power plant on federal land near Boulder. This project reflects the tech industry's expansion beyond traditional coastal hubs, with Colorado potentially playing a key role in supporting America's AI ambitions. The plan also includes establishing AI-focused data centers at 15 other federal sites across the country. Currently, data center employment is concentrated in just five states, with Northern Virginia hosting the world's densest concentration of these facilities. However, location shouldn't impact how much power these facilities have access to. With high power density superconducting solutions from VEIR, customers have more flexibility in data center design because they’re no longer tied to large, heavy, legacy busbars for power distribution. With compact superconducting systems you can unlock higher server density and greater performance. Additionally, there’s more choice in location because you can get more power to the site quicker over existing rights of way. We’re excited to support the efforts to build out AI infrastructure across the United States! https://lnkd.in/e2Bca3-s

VEIR is developing a new generation of High Temperature Superconductor (HTS)-based transmission lines.
About us
VEIR is using superconductors to deliver the high power density needed for the rapid expansion of data centers, where power requirements exceed the limits of existing busbar and cable solutions. Our next-gen superconducting transmission lines represent a major leap in energy infrastructure, delivering 5-10 times more power than conventional lines at the same voltage level. This increase in capacity helps bring new power generation sources online faster, drives global decarbonization, and strengthens the reliability of the electrical grid.

VEIR has been recognized on TIME's 2024 GreenTech list, celebrating companies that are reimagining how to approach sustainability. We’re honored to be selected – our inclusion underscores our commitment to developing solutions that are both commercially innovative and environmentally responsible. The world needs access to much more electricity than can be delivered today: for AI data centers, for growing industrial and consumer electrification, and for grid resilience. At VEIR, we’ve developed high power density superconducting systems that deliver 10x the power in the same space. Our systems completely change the systems design landscape. For an AI data center, our compact distribution architecture allows for efficient power distribution around the site, improves server density inside the building, while simplifying construction resulting in lower costs and faster project completion. Additionally, we help the site get the power it needs, including access to renewable power, even if the data center is not local to the renewable power generation site. From early adopters in the data center market, we’re excited to bring our solutions more broadly into the global electricity grid, with great partners like National Grid. https://lnkd.in/ernFXqH5

“Anytime a company like ours can find an early market with an urgent problem that we can solve, that is always going to get quite a bit of interest,” according to VEIR CEO Tim Heidel, who spoke with The Wall Street Journal’s Ed Ballard about the company’s focus on power density for AI data centers. By increasing power delivery capabilities for data centers, VEIR's low-loss superconducting systems enable increased server density while simplifying design & construction. "This is the most fundamental change to computing since the early days of the World Wide Web." Companies rebuilt computer systems for the internet in the 1990s. Today they're rebuilding everything for AI. Check out this insightful The New York Times overview capturing AI data centers' challenges and scale. Consuming over 4% of U.S. electricity in 2023 and expected to triple by 2028, power infrastructure must match this exponential demand. The VEIR team is excited to help solve these global challenges with high power density systems using low-loss superconducting cables. https://lnkd.in/dQvwFmrr
