Our mission is to advance sustainable hydropower, building knowledge on its role in energy, water & climate solutions.
About us
Our mission is to advance sustainable hydropower by building and sharing knowledge on its role in renewable energy systems, responsible freshwater management and climate change solutions. The world is facing a water and energy crisis. Around the globe, 1.1 billion people do not have access to clean water, while 1.2 billion live without access to electricity. The dominance of fossil fuels in the global energy supply drives climate change, exacerbating these problems. With the global demand for energy expected to increase by up to 61 per cent by 2050, the world must look towards a sustainable, renewable mix of energy sources. Hydropower, the world’s largest source of renewable electricity, has an increasingly important role to play as part of a mixed energy portfolio in adapting to climate change. Development is challenging on many fronts. While the way forward for hydropower must be economically and technically robust, its footprint must be one that respects the environment and makes people’s lives better. Our vision is a world where water and energy services are delivered to all in a sustainable way.

Today, the IHA delegation in India met with Shri Kanubhai Desai, Minister for Finance and Energy at the Government of Gujarat. Discussions followed the State of Gujarat’s leadership in renewable energy development and plans for grid stability through the use of pumped storage hydropower (PSH). India has committed to 60 GW of PSH by 2032. By comparison, Gujarat has set a target of 10 GW by this date. Seven PSH sites are currently being explored for feasibility at stage one. State policy to enable PSH development and secure long duration energy storage for Gujarat’s ambitious renewable targets was a key area of focus during the meeting. IHA also had the pleasure of visiting the office of members Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) in Vadodara. A Government of Gujarat company, GUVNL works to facilitate the development of Gujarat's power sector and uphold reliable electricity services state-wide, whilst promoting energy conservation initiatives and ensuring a stable and efficient power supply throughout Gujarat. #WithHydropower #Gujarat #India #PumpedForPower Alka Yadav Jai Prakash Shivahare, IAS Kavin Kumar Kandasamy ProClime Eddie Rich Kiran Bose Iryna Petriashvili Bose Sumantraa

Water power is flexible, dependable, and built for America. That's the industry's top message, as around 140 of us head to Capitol Hill today to meet with 134 House and Senate offices as part of Advocacy Day. There, we'll urge lawmakers to support sensible, bipartisan solutions to unleash hydro's full power. To help bolster that message, NHA is also unleashing a new ad campaign aimed at these Members of Congress and policy makers. Our ads, which urge greater tax support for upgrades to existing #hydropower, are running throughout the Nation's Capitol on social media, streaming platforms, print media, and even digital billboards at bus stops and D.C. Metro stations. Check out our new 30-second ad below and click here to read more about NHA's policy priorities. https://lnkd.in/eDE4vaGw

Congo to rely on renewables to double power generation to 1.5 GW. Minister Emile Ouosso said at the Congo Energy & Investment Forum, that the country’s most valuable energy resource is water and pointed out that the government has identified 4,000 MW of hydropower potential in the Brazzaville region. In addition to hydroelectric power, the country will also rely on solar energy. For instance, AMEA Power is currently exploring the potential for a 50-MW solar project in the Brazzaville region.
