North Harbour Rugby wish to extend congratulations to Sam Ryburn from Mahurangi Rugby Club who has been appointed Chairman of our Council of Clubs, and Mark Joynt from Massey Rugby Club who has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman. Sam has served on the Council of Clubs since 2013 and has been a committee member at Mahurangi for 24 years. He was awarded North Harbour Rugby Volunteer of the Year in 2024 as recognition of his long-standing service with the club and the Union. He also joins the North Harbour Rugby Board of Directors, as the Council of Clubs representative. Mark has served on the Council of Clubs since 2013 and has been a committee member at Massey Rugby Club for 28 years. Mark has been involved in all aspects of the club, from coaching Junior rugby through to Club Captain. In 2019 Mark was awarded Life Membership to Massey Rugby Club for his outstanding contribution to the club and his community.

An increase in poor sideline behaviour has seen a number of Auckland Regional Sport Organisations come together with Aktive to launch a collective initiative, Love Their Game™. This is a reminder to everyone, no matter what sport, to respect that the game belongs to those playing, refereeing, coaching and managing, and not those on the sideline. Rugby referee and Love Their Game Ambassador Dr Ben O'Keeffe says: “Love Their Game is about turning good feelings into good behaviours and ensuring we’re all doing our bit to support our young people’s growth, belonging and future through sport and physical activity.” Thank you to Love Their Game launch Ambassadors including rugby referee Ben O’Keeffe; New Zealand basketball player Corey Webster; and One NZ Warriors player and Warriors Community Foundation representative Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, and @Northern Region Football Chief Executive Laura Menzies and Melissa Chan-Green for helping us launch this initiative, and to partners CoachMate and Go Media Stadium for supporting this important message. Shifting the Game for Teenage Rugby Coaching! A special day collaborating with New Zealand Rugby and five provincial unions— North Harbour Rugby Union, Thames Valley Rugby Union, Taranaki Rugby Football Union, Hawkes Bay Rugby Union, South Canterbury Rugby Football Union —focused on game-based coaching approaches in the teenage rugby space. We’ve embarked on a blended approach, integrating coaching workshops, The Coaching Gig app, and shaping an ongoing coach support plan. Plenty of great debate, co-design, and, most importantly, alignment on where we’re all heading. Now, the real journey begins!
