Industry association of 300+ decentralised renewable energy (#DRE) players to accelerate India’s clean energy transition
About us
Clean Energy Access Network is an Industry Association of 300+ members in the decentralised renewable energy sector. We were conceived in 2014 but got formally registered in 2018. We are the voice of the DRE sector with a purpose of unifying the diverse players and bolster the impact and reach of the DRE to facilitate clean energy transition of India. Our members are of a diverse pool of entrepreneurs (start up to established businesses), Non profit organisations, think tanks and institutions focusing on delivery quality, reliable, affordable clean energy to rural remote communities. CLEAN is technology agnostic - the solutions ranging from the solar, wind, bio-energy, mini grids and pico hydro to clean cookstoves. The scale of its members' operations ranges from pico solutions to larger, decentralized solutions. CLEAN recognizes that off-grid energy solutions move beyond bridging the energy gap by addressing lighting, cooking, pumping needs and so on to positively affects outcomes in education, health and agriculture and enhances livelihood opportunities. Decentralised clean energy has an impact on the overall quality of life. The Government of India is committed to net-zero emission targets and is improving the macro environment to accelerate clean energy transition. We are one of the preferred partners of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM). So far, we have reached more than 5 million households with the customised solutions provided by our 300+ members.

Our CEO, Priyadarshini Karve, was part of two impactful sessions at #SAFDE25—a panel discussion led by WRI India on expanding DRE in agrifood supply chains, and another session led by CLEAN on the evolving role of DRE industry associations which highlighted the importance of industry associations in shaping effective, people-centric policies. CLEAN also launched the digital version of State of the DRE Sector 2024 report, highlighting DRE as a complete climate solution, briefed by Geetanjali Purkayastha in the session. Thanks to GOGLA, Good Energies Foundation, and IKEA Foundation for hosting this important forum! #DRE #EnergyAccess #ClimateSolutions #SAFDE25 #CleanEnergy #PoweringLivelihoods #SustainableDevelopment Nitin Akhade Anjali Lathigara Rekha Krishnan Ketaki Kokil Vinay Jaju, Dr. Utparn Dubey, Myron Mendes, Amol Balwant Shende, Lt Col Monish Ahuja, Geetanjali Purkayastha, Karsan Reddy Praviin B Kumaar Vidya Sagapam Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), SwitchON Foundation (Environment Conservation Society), International Solar Alliance, The World Bank, SELCO Foundation, GIZ India, UNDP in India, WRI India, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute, Tata Trusts, GOGLA
I had some interesting and thought provoking discussions at #SAFDE25 on April 8-9, 2025. I was a panellist in a WRI India led session on Role of DRE in Agrifood Supply Chains, in which the speakers introspected on what more is possible beyond solar powered irrigation and cold storage. I made a pitch for different DRE technology experts to come together and find innovative and integrated DRE powered solutions for South Asia's small landholder farmers. Clean Energy Access Network also led a session focused on the role of DRE industry associations. The speakers representing industry associations acknowledged and cited examples of how industry associations have successfully pitched for policies in the sector, while the sector has evolved and its envisaged role has changed from providing basic energy access to marginalised communities to helping communities become energy secure in a climate-aligned manner. The government representatives on the panel pointed out how inputs from industry associations are important to ensure that policies are effective and work for the people. The digital version of CLEAN's State of DRE Sector report for 2024 on the theme of DRE as a complete climate solution was also unveiled during the session. Apart from these formal interactions, there were a number of informal interactions on the side-lines, resulting in some useful exchange of thoughts and opinions! Overall an enriching experience, thanks to GOGLA!

Just one week to go for South Asia Forum for Distributed Energy #SAFDE2025! The urgency to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy has never been clearer. While large-scale solar and wind projects dominate investments and policies, Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) struggles for financial and policy attention, in spite of its multiple benefits. At SAFDE 2025, CLEAN is hosting a key session "Associating for DRE: Changing Roles of Industry Associations” along with the unveiling of the “CLEAN State of DRE Sector Report 2024” on the 9th of April from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM! This session will explore how DRE industry associations—both formal and informal—are shaping policy, unlocking finance, and driving the transition to a climate-resilient energy future in India and South Asia.
