🌊 Last week, Silvia Rayo Luengo joined the Second Annual Meeting of the #CAMBioMed project in Chania, Crete! 🐠 Representing Future Oceans Lab, Silvia presented the methodology for analysing stakeholder perceptions based on biocultural values, within the Nature’s Contributions to People (IPBES) framework. She also coordinated with Paula López (#ICM-CSIC) to integrate the perception survey in upcoming citizen science activities using the Observadores del Mar platform. It was a productive and inspiring week of collaboration as CAMBioMed prepares to launch its adaptive monitoring activities across the Mediterranean 💙 ! 📣 Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/d5g_hMBc #CAMBioMed #CitizenScience #BioculturalValues #MarineMonitoring #Mediterranean #FutureOceansLab #observadoresdelmar #obsdelmar

🌊🦪 This week, our master's student María Fernanda Acevedo visited the fishers' guilds (cofradías) of the Muros-Noia estuary alongside Haritz Ayarza Molinero as part of her fieldwork. Through these visits, we aim to understand the perception of the cofradías’ technical support services and explore the adaptive capacity of the shellfishing sector in the face of potential impacts from coastal acidification. 💡 Collaboration with the sector is key to understanding the challenges and finding sustainable solutions. #Fieldwork #MarineResearch #ClimateChange #Sustainability #CoastalAcidification #Adaptation

Inspiring the next generation of scientists! 🌊🔬 Today, Elena Ojea visited IES Castelao in Vigo, where she shared her journey as a scientist and her work leading Future Oceans Lab at the Centro de Investigación Mariña (CIM-UVigo) of the Universidade de Vigo. Speaking to students preparing for university, she discussed what it means to be a researcher, the challenges and rewards of a scientific career, and the importance of ocean sustainability. 🔎 The goal? To inspire and encourage young minds to pursue science, showing them that research is not only about discovering new knowledge but also about making an impact on our planet’s future. 🌍 A huge thanks to IES Castelao for the invitation and to the students for their curiosity and engagement! Who knows? Maybe some of them will be part of the next generation of ocean scientists. 💙🌊 #FutureOceansLab #ScienceForTheFuture #STEMeducation #OceanScience #InspiringYoungScientists

🌊 Closing Event of the Mariscadoras ConCiencia Project This week, we had the pleasure of attending the final event of Mariscadoras ConCiencia, a project led by Anmupesca with the support of #GALP Ría de Vigo A Guarda and the Consellería do Mar of the Xunta de Galicia. The initiative has fostered stronger connections between the scientific-technical community—especially within the Ría de Vigo—and the shellfish gatherers working along the coast. At Future Oceans Lab, we are truly grateful to have been part of this project. Engaging directly with the mariscadoras and learning from their deep knowledge of the marine environment has been an enriching experience. We look forward to continuing to build bridges between science and traditional fishing communities, working together towards a more sustainable future for our coastal ecosystems. 🌍✈️ FOL is on the move again! This time, our journey takes us to the Stockholm Resilience Centre, where Elena Ojea and Juan Bueno Pardo are participating in a workshop this week. This event is part of the #ACTNOW project, which addresses biodiversity loss in European oceans and explores solutions to mitigate its impacts. 🌊 Elena and Juan are working closely with case study partners to gather key insights and develop management tools that account for the cumulative effects of multiple stressors. 🤝 With more than 20 researchers from 10 countries attending in person, this workshop is a key step toward advancing marine resilience in Europe! 💙 #MarineResilience #ACTNOW #FutureOceansLab #StockholmResilienceCenter #OceanBiodiversity

🐚 📣 Andreu Blanco from FOL and Iria García from Geoma are leading a new project to assess the impact of mussel farming and shellfisheries on microphytobenthos tophic webs!
🤔 Do you know what the #BenthicPro project, led by Iria García and Andreu Blanco, is looking for? 🌱 🧐 It will study microalgae 👉 from the Vigo, Pontevedra, and Arousa estuaries to assess 📊 the potential effects of mussel rafts and bivalve harvesting 🦪 in the shallow infralittoral zone. This research 👩🔬🧑🔬 will help reconstruct the role of these microalgae and promote the sustainable management of marine resources. 🌿🐚 Iria and Andreu were winners of #CIMPosDou, ➡️ a CIM initiative to support innovative and high-impact projects. 💪 🔎 Find out how they are working to improve the conservation of our estuaries! 👇 #CIM #FEDER #FEDERGalicia #EUFunds #HRS4R
