🌍 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 At the German Biochar Forum 2024, a lively panel discussion, “𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗖𝗥 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀”, brought together Robin Klemens (Kumo Labs GmbH), Agathe Roger (SWEN Capital Partners), Jan Lindenberger (Next Generation Elements GmbH), and Kash Burchett (HSBC Group). The session was moderated by Matías Yudelevich (Puro.earth). The discussion highlighted a key challenge: 𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 € 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 to justify the effort of reviewing the opportunity. However, there are alternative financial instruments for project developers aiming to scale: - 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘁 - 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 - 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 that share common criteria into a 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 (𝗦𝗣𝗩) to reach the 100 million € threshold. Robin Klemens emphasized the importance of collaboration and building credibility for the biochar industry: “𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲.” This collective approach can accelerate the scaling of biochar carbon removal projects and attract the necessary funding. #Biochar #GermanBiochar #IBI #GermanBiocharForum #CDR #ClimateAction #Financing #Sustainability
