š The Future of Carbon Removal Must Be Global! š Ā š¤ This week, the Global South CDR Coalition made its voice heard in Europe! Fiona Mugambi, our Head of Growth and Partnerships, joined fellow Global South leaders in Brussels to advocate for the inclusion of non-EU carbon removal (CDR) in Europeās climate strategy.š¤ Ā šÆ Their goal? To ensure the Green Claims Directive (GCD)ācurrently in trilogue negotiations and set to regulate corporate environmental claimsāexplicitly recognizes and includes carbon removal projects from the Global South. ā Ā āļø Despite playing a crucial role in durable carbon removal, the Global South remains underrepresented in global climate policies. The coalition made the case for a fairer approachāone that recognizes the regionās contributions and ensures fair access to European markets, provided projects meet Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Regulation (CRCF) standards. š Ā š” Fair access to European markets wouldnāt just expand the global carbon removal supplyāit would drive investment, fuel innovation, and maximize climate impact where itās needed most. A level playing field is essential to accelerating the path to net zero. š Ā š Huge thanks to Fiona Mugambi, Sebastian Manhart, Wietse Vroom, Francesco Guglielmi, Maarten de Lange, Hedda Bjƶrck, and Sasankh Munukutla for leading this important dialogue! šŖšŗāØ And a special shoutout to Keiran Foster, Anneleen Ghekiere, and Federico Schroeder for their incredible support. š¤ Ever wondered how we develop our Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems? Ā š„ļø A key part of our innovation journey has been simulation-driven design, which is transforming how we develop and optimize our technology. Thanks to the Ansys Startup Program facilitated by Qfinsoft (PTY) LTD, we are accelerating these advancements. š Ā ā”Victoria, our fluids engineer, highlights: āAnsys has been an excellent partner on the engineering design front, enabling us to carry out detailed structural, fluids, and process simulations. This has significantly sped up our product development by reducing our reliance on physical prototypes.ā āļø Ā š§ With ANSYSā tools, we model real-world conditions, optimize machine performance, and refine our designs before they even reach the workshopāsaving time ā³, cutting costs š°, and improving efficiency š. Ā āØ Thanks to Qfinsoft (Pty) Ltd, we have integrated ANSYS simulations into our engineering workflows, enhancing our ability to tackle complex challenges with precision šÆ. As Hannah, our mechanical design lead, notes, āANSYS simulation will be instrumental in reducing the cost of our DAC technology.ā Ā š Curious to learn more about how we are using ANSYS to accelerate our tech development journey? š Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eGaFJiZc Ā #DAC #CarbonRemoval #ClimateTech #CDR #Engineering #CarbonRemoval #NetZero #Kenya #Innovation #Ansys #Simulation

ā”Kenya's vast geothermal resources are not only lighting up homes but also powering the next wave of green industrialization, as Ben Payton highlighted in a recent fDi Intelligence feature.š Ā š” As the sixth-largest geothermal power producer in the world, Kenya has an estimated ~10,000 MW geothermal potential, with around ~9,000 MW still untappedāa massive opportunity to drive sustainable, 24/7 industrial growthš. This is particularly crucial for Direct Air Capture (DAC), which needs round-the-clock clean energy to scale without competing with fossil fuel phaseouts. Ā š At Octavia Carbon, we believe that stable, clean-form power will play a crucial role in scaling DAC.Ā Thatās why we are designing our technology to leverage Kenyaās geothermal advantage, drawing not only on electricity but alsošwaste heat to meet over 80% of our energy needs. Ā šļø By integrating DAC with geothermal infrastructure, we can create a new industrial demand that will incentivize the growth of Kenya's geothermal sector āwhich has long been constrained by underutilization. This will, in turn, increase energy access in the region and accelerate Kenyaās clean energy transition. š Ā š Read more about Kenyaās geothermal revolution in Ben Paytonās feature: https://lnkd.in/gzWyVvGE Ā #DAC #CarbonRemoval #CDR #CarbonCapture #ClimateTech #Cleantech #GreenIndustriesĀ #GeothermalEnergyĀ #Sustainability #Kenya [Photo: KenGen]

š§Lessons from the Field: 2,000+ Hours of DAC in Actionšļø Ā šļø This week, we had the incredible opportunity to return to 'This is CDR' by The OpenAir Collective and share the lessons we have learned from building and operating the first Direct Air Capture (DAC) plant in the Southern Hemisphere. Ā š¬ Our Co-founders, Duncan Kariuki (CPO) and Martin FreimĆ¼ller (CEO), reflected on the challenges, successes, and key learnings from our journey so far. š”As Martin highlights "We want to put our experiences out in the open so our space can learn togetherāhow to bring low-cost DAC to the world." Ā š ļø "Capturing COā from air at 0.04% concentration and bringing it up to over 99% purity is no small feat. Every leak, every inefficiency, is a challenge we have had to solveāsometimes through weeks of trial and error" as Duncan shares. š With 2,000+ hours in the field, we are now focused on scaling and optimizing our technology. Ā š A huge thank you to Christopher Neidl and Tank Chen for hosting us and to everyone who tuned in! š If you missed the webinar, you can catch the full conversation here: https://lnkd.in/dRT2pVFt #CarbonRemoval #DAC #ClimateInnovation #ClimateAction #Sustainability
