We are thrilled to begin our journey with the TriFluorium Project, aiming to demonstrate the tribolysis recycling principle for organofluorides! Fluoropolymers are essential for many applications, such as semiconductors, medical applications or green technologies like hydrogen production and electric vehicles. However, their disposal is limited and the EU relies on imports for fluorspar, a critical resource with a recycling rate of only 1 % due to a lack of effective recycling technologies. The EU-funded TriFluorium project will demonstrate the tribolysis recycling principle for organofluorides, regardless of their chemical structure or state. The project will also develop a dedicated triboreactor for laboratory-scale validation, paving the way for scaling and industrializing tribolysis technology.

Fluoropolymers are essential in semiconductors, hydrogen production, and electric vehicles, but their disposal remains a challenge, and recycling options are extremely limited. At the same time, inorganic fluorides like fluorspar are critical industrial feedstocks, yet Europe imports nearly all of its supply, with just 1% coming from recycling. 💡 That’s where 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗙𝗹𝘂𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺 comes in! • More than 10% increase in continuous e-motor performance Partial discharge poses a major challenge for developing long-lasting, high-performance electric motors, especially for use in electric aircraft. The effect of partial discharge between the individual conductors will damage the insulation, and significantly reduce the life of the electric motor. Daikin Chemicals and Additive Drives GmbH recently presented the first results of their joint development activities at the E|DPC conference in Regensburg, Germany: Increasing the copper fill factor in electric motors while reducing partial discharge. Daikin Chemicals' joint development partner Additive Drives takes the phenomenon of partial discharge into account when developing new electric motors. The Partial Discharge Inception Voltage (PDIV) level can be increased by adjusting the wiring. For this purpose, the winding design is optimized and validated for partial discharge using in-house simulation tools. In addition, PFA insulated magnet wire is used to achieve the best possible results. Side by side, functional testing demonstrated a PDIV level consistently higher compared to the incumbent insulation materials. Consequently, and compared to PAI enamel wire, the insulation thickness could be reduced by 50%, resulting in a significantly higher copper fill factor in the slot and an increase in the continuous power of the motor by more than 10%. At the same time, the efficiency of the motor is significantly improved. This technology can be used in a variety of way and opens up new areas in the field of high-performance, and efficient electric motors: - 800+ V for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and heavy trucks - Durable rail and traction drives - Powerful aviation e-drives Additive Drives and Daikin Chemicals have invested in in-house production of wires which enables particularly fast prototyping and rapid validation of the concepts. Processing on standard equipment guarantees the suitability of scaling the production process. #electricmotor #electrification #emotor #emobility #innovation

  • Happy Periodic Table Day! 🔬 Today, we celebrate the building blocks of the universe and their incredible contributions to science, innovation, and technology. For Periodic Table Day, we would like to highlight the element sodium (Na) which plays key role in an exciting, groundbreaking project we're part of! As part of NIBlog, a German funded project, we’re exploring sodium-ion batteries as a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to lithium-ion batteries—specifically for powering electric forklifts. Why Sodium? - Abundance & Affordability: Sodium is far more abundant than lithium, reducing costs and supply chain concerns. - Sustainability: By leveraging sodium, we minimize environmental impact and reliance on critical raw materials. - Performance: Sodium-ion batteries are proving to be a viable solution for energy-intensive applications like forklifts. Together with our partners, we’re working on unlocking sodium’s full potential and contributing to a more sustainable future!
