Additive Drives and Zeiss: Simplifying electrification together! As part of our long-standing collaboration with ZEISS Group and the use of high-tech products for quality assurance, a portrait of Additive Drives was released on Zeiss' channels last week. Meet the makers: that's why the #HandsOnMetrology team visited us to take a closer look at and present the optical metrology from Zeiss, which we use in production for quality control. How do we use the measurement technology, what motivates the Additive Drives team? Zeiss repeatedly presents exciting and innovative companies that work with the group's systems and set standards there. A film team accompanied us through our production and our metrology laboratory and saw how we make electrification simpler, better and more sustainable. Additive Drives uses state-of-the-art optical metrology systems for incoming goods inspection and for inspecting tools and outgoing items. The quality assurance team also repeatedly uses optical metrology in the manufacturing process itself to maintain high component quality. Optical measurement is particularly fast and efficient, which gives us enormous advantages, especially in prototyping, and leads to faster results! More than 10% increase in continuous performance Additive Drives and Daikin Chemicals recently presented the first results of their joint development activities at the #EDPC in Regensburg: increasing the copper fill factor in electric motors while reducing partial discharge. One of the challenges in developing long-life, performing electric motors, especially for use in electric aircraft, is partial discharge. The effect of partial discharge between the individual conductors will damage the insulation, and significantly reduce the life of the electric motor. Additive Drives takes the phenomenon of partial discharge into account when developing new electric motors. The Partial Discharge Inception Voltage (#PDIV) level can be increased by adjusting the wiring. For this purpose, the winding design is optimized and validated for PD using our in-house simulation tools. In addition, PFA insulated magnet wire is used to achieve the best possible results. Side by side functional testing demonstrated a PDIV level consistently higher compared to the incumbent insulation materials. Consequently and compared to PAI enamel wire, the insulation thickness could be reduced by 50%, resulting in a significantly higher copper fill factor in the slot and an increase in the continuous power of the motor by more than 10%. At the same time, the efficiency of the motor is significantly improved. This technology can be used in a variety of ways and opens up new areas in the field of high-performance electric motors: - 800+ V for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and heavy trucks - Durable rail and traction drives - Powerful aviation drives The in-house production of wires enables particularly fast prototyping and rapid validation of the concepts. High performance single coils for aviation   Additive Drives develops customized electric motors for a wide range of applications, including electric aviation and aerospace. High-performance electric drives also play a decisive role in future developments in this sector. High-torque motors with single coils are an important component in meeting the high requirements.   Concentrated windings are used in a wide variety of applications.
