🚨 Think a small farm is too small to be a cyber attack target? Think again. In today’s #CODECS Knowledge Accelerator webinar, we heard powerful stories and examples showing the importance of implementing regulations to ensure cybersecurity in agriculture: 🔒 A small Swiss farm lost a pregnant cow due to a ransomware attack that shut down its automated milking systems. 🌍 A Slovenian farm's login page was publicly accessible, uncovered in minutes using open source tools. 🇺🇸 A major U.S. meat processor suffered an $11M ransomware breach, disrupting fruit and vegetable supply chains across three continents. Cybersecurity in agriculture is not just a technical issue—it’s about resilience, food security, livelihoods, and trust. As highlighted by experts from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, FAO, University of Ljubljana, and the CODECS Horizon Project, securing digital agriculture requires coordinated policy, shared responsibility across value chains, and above all, support for vulnerable actors like smallholder farmers. 💡 Key takeaways: ◾ Digitalisation must not widen the gap between large agribusinesses and smaller farms. ◾Cultural cybersecurity, employee training, and shared infrastructure models (like cooperatives) can reduce costs and risks. ◾Foresight and behavioural science should guide policy innovation — because cyber risk is as much about human behaviour as it is about code. Let’s not treat cybersecurity as an afterthought in agriculture. It’s a foundational layer for inclusive, sustainable, and trusted digital innovation. 📊 Key presentations included: ◾Cybersecurity in Agriculture: Insights from Research – Angelica Marotta, Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT ◾CODECS Perspective on Cybersecurity Challenges – Prof. gianluca brunori, Università di Pisa ◾Open Data in Agriculture: Opportunities and Threats – Maj Vilfan, University of Ljubljana ◾Secure Digitalisation for All Farmers – Nevena Alexandrova, FAO 📚 Full event materials are now available on our website: 🔗https://lnkd.in/dKy_8Tt7 #CyberAg #FoodSecurity #DigitalFarming #CODECS #AgTech #CyberResilience #DigitalisationForAll #FAO #MIT #PolicyInnovation

Maximising the CO-benefits of agricultural Digitalisation through conducive digital ECoSystems
About us
CODECS is a Horizon Europe project (2022-2026) to support digitalisation for European farmers. CODECS will develop, and turn into concepts, methods, tools, evidence, a vision of “sustainable digitalisation” with the goal of improving the collective capacity to understand, assess and foresee the full range of benefits and costs of farm digitalisation, and to build digital ecosystems that maximise the net benefits of digitalisation.

🌍 ECoPP Statement on the Future of the Partnership Principle 🌍 I am proud to share today´s statement from the European Community of Practice on Partnership (#ECoPP) which I was glad to coauthor. ECoPP brings together a large set of organisations and public administrations working on EU Cohesion Policy. The ECoPP statement emphasises the importance of the Partnership Principle in EU Cohesion Policy. Amidst global instability and internal challenges, ECoPP calls for stronger integration of this principle in the European Semester and post-2027 policies. Key points include: *Inclusive Collaboration: Ensuring cooperation among public authorities, economic and social partners, and civil society at all levels. *Effective Implementation: Enhancing the impact of EU funds through multi-level governance and bottom-up approaches. *Legal Framework: Advocating for a revised European Code of Conduct on Partnership to make the principle legally binding. *Democratic Processes: Strengthening trust and unity by involving stakeholders in decision-making. ECoPP believes that a universal application of the Partnership Principle is essential for addressing complex challenges and fostering sustainable development across the EU. 🤝 As many of you are preparing submissions for the ongoing post 2027 MFF consultation you might consider referring or incorporating these ideas in your submissions. cc: AEIDL (European Association for Innovation in Local Development) European LEADER Association for Rural Development - ELARD ECOLISE European Committee of the Regions GRANULAR - Giving rural actors novel data and re-useable tools to lead public action in rural areas MOVING - Mountain Valorisation through Interconnectedness and Green Growth CODECS BEATLES project EU RURACTIVE RURBANIVE Project EU SMART ERA RURACTIVE European Rural Community Alliance ERCA POLIS network European Committee of the Regions Eurocities Council of European Municipalities and Regions Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) Assembly of European Regions (AER) FUTURAL Project European Policies Research Centre European Economic and Social Committee European Commission Michael Schmitz Thomas Wobben Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union Urban Agenda for the EU EURADA - European Association of Development Agencies ICLEI Europe European Rural Pact EU CAP Network FAMENET - Fisheries and Aquaculture Monitoring, Evaluation and Local Support Network RSA Research Network on Cohesion Policy [#CPnet]#CPnet]#CPnet]#CPnet] LDNET EUROPEAN URBAN FORUM European Urban Initiative Interreg Europe
