Professor Martin Green, the father of modern photovoltaics, stopped by SunDrive to see our progress firsthand. Prof Green's breakthroughs in solar cell development laid the foundation for the industry we have today, with many of today's leading solar experts either directly trained by him or shaped by his students. For our team, Martin's tour is more than just a visit - it's a reminder of Australian ingenuity. With his efforts, Australia has led the world in solar innovation for many decades and we’re working to ensure that this continues☀️ #solar #manufacturing #australianinnovation #renewables

SunDrive Solar says it will apply for funding from Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)’s Solar Sunshot program to support the commercial scale manufacture of #AustralianMade new generation solar panels. SunDrive has created the world’s most efficient commercial sized solar cell using copper instead of expensive silver paste in its solar cell construction. Copper is around 100 times cheaper than silver and 1000 times more abundant. The Solar Sunshot scheme falls under the #FutureMadeinAustralia policy with the Australian Government investing $22.7 billion over the next decade to maximise the economic and industrial benefits of the move to net zero and securing Australia’s place in a changing global economic and strategic landscape. ARENA has been supporting SunDrive since 2020 and in 2023, the Australian business received $11 million to help expand its operations in Kurnell, south Sydney. Anthony Albanese officially opened the site in 2023. “The global race for affordable and reliable renewable energy has never been more intense, or more important.” “And leading on efficiency is a tremendous source of competitive advantage. It means lowering costs – and reducing emissions,” said the Prime Minister. Earlier this week, SunDrive signed a Memorandum of Understanding with global solar manufacturer, Trinasolar, to form a majority owned Australian joint venture. The two businesses have collaborated for the past five years. The joint venture aims to establish cutting-edge solar manufacturing capabilities in Australia, annual capacity of 1.2 gigawatts of production and over 350 skilled jobs, subject to funding. SunDrive says the local manufacture of its solar technology will strengthen Australia’s energy security, contribute to renewable energy goals, and position Australia as a global leader in solar technology. The Australian Government is backing Australian ideas and investing in the people that will drive our national success. We echo our Chief Commercial Officer Maia Schweizer's enthusiasm from #ACES2024 held this week! The push for robust Australian supply chains is not only vital for our industry's growth but also a fantastic opportunity for local economic development. As Australia gears up for significant installations of solar, wind, and storage, the potential for transforming our energy landscape into a superpower is within reach. SunDrive is proud to contribute to this vision with our innovative copper-plated solar cells, ready to meet the demands of the future. A big thank you to the Clean Energy Council for leading the charge and fostering these insightful discussions. Exciting times ahead for Australia’s renewable sector! 🚀 Darren Miller Peter Cowling Rachel Watson Jan Daniel Kaemmer Ed Wilson #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #FutureMadeInAustralia #SunDriveSolar
The vibe at this year’s #ACES was “Let’s get on with it!”. Thanks to Clean Energy Council for hosting a panel on Australian supply chains for the “big build” ahead of us. We agreed that there are huge opportunities for local economic benefit and reliable supply chains as annual installations of wind, solar and storage (and the transformers, cables, towers, etc. that connect them) climb toward Superpower scale. SunDrive is getting ready to supply world-leading copper-plated solar cells into that future. And thank Darren Miller for sharing insights on a Future Made in Australia and SunShot — bring it on!
