About us

We are a leading international design practice with studios in Asia, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Our purpose is to create a better future by designing the world’s best places – places people love. Our design values are shared globally across all our studios, by the talented people who work in them: architects, interior designers, landscape architects, urban designers, planners and specialist consultants. We work across a broad range of scales, from the interior design of a boutique retail store through to major public architecture and strategic urban planning for cities. And we work together in integrated design teams because they produce the best outcomes for our clients. Our focus is on people and how we create better, more meaningful experiences for them. We do that through creative, holistic thinking, a deep knowledge base and a rigorous design process. We judge the success of the buildings and places we design by the way people use and enjoy them - the clients who commission them, the people who inhabit them. We are a Certified B Corp. Cbus Property’s 205 North Quay, designed by Hassell, REX Architecture, and Richards & Spence, isn't just another office tower. It's a subtropical haven tailored for the modern hybrid worker, offering quiet retreats for focused work, fresh air, and opportunities for excellent coffee. And there's more. Garden terraces, river views, a 25-metre pool and an open-air ground level podium — all designed to prioritise wellness. This building isn't just for work; it’s a community hub. Liam Short, Principal at Hassell, highlights its strategic location near the Brisbane River and Roma Street Station, emphasising its role in transforming the surrounding precinct. “205 North Quay is a great example of what a future-fit contemporary commercial tower could and should incorporate, from design and sustainability to wellness and lifestyle features for workers and the public to enjoy,” says Liam. 🔗 Is this the future of work? In Melbourne, Australia the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) demonstrates how transport infrastructure can actively transform communities. Hassell's work across 25 station precincts has not only resolved critical safety and efficiency issues but has also redefined these spaces as integral civic hubs. From the pioneering green roof at Mt Derrimut on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country to the culturally rich integration of First Nations narratives at Werribee Street informed by the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, each project embodies a commitment to placemaking. Our approach integrates architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture to create spaces that foster social cohesion and enhance the urban experience. This is more than infrastructure; it’s a deliberate investment in the long-term vitality of Melbourne’s communities. 🔗 Explore more here: https://lnkd.in/gRwK2_ua 📷 Image 1: Cherry Street (Western Program Alliance / WPA) by Sarah Pannell; Image 2: Hallam Station (Southern Eastern Program Alliance / SEPA) by Victor Vieaux; Image 3: Blackburn Station (VicRoads and the Level Crossing Removal Alliance) by Max Creasy; Image 4: Regional Link Footscray - Deer Park (Regional Rail Link / RRL) by Peter B Bennetts. #CityShaping #UrbanTransport #RailUpgrades #UrbanDesign #LandscapeArchitecture #WesternProgramAlliance Arup McConnell Dowell Mott MacDonald Metro Trains Melbourne

What if architecture could be a catalyst for profound social change? At the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia curated by Carlo Ratti, we're showcasing the Hope Village Community Building in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, a project by Hassell and charity foundation One Heart Foundation in collaboration with Eckersley O'Callaghan and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). The Hope Village Community Building creates a safe and empowering space for underprivileged girls and marginalised young women. Featuring an innovative timber tension roof and 3D-printed earth walls, the structure blends cutting-edge technology with sustainable materials to create a place of safety, shelter and purpose. This project is a powerful example of how design can contribute to building stronger, more resilient communities. We're proud to share this story at the Venice Biennale, highlighting the transformative potential of architecture on a global stage. La Biennale di Venezia runs from 10 May - 23 Nov 2025. 🔗 Learn more about the Hope Village Community Building and its impact here: https://lnkd.in/gFZqpRW6 #BiennaleArchitettura2025 #IntelliGens #VeniceBiennale Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia

In Jiangsu Province, China we’ve reimagined the cultural precinct. Forget the singular, siloed venue. Our competition scheme places a concert hall — a true stage for both tradition and innovation, complete with a multimedia studio — at the heart of a wider, living ecosystem spanning an art gallery, library, sports centre and a public plaza. Inspired by the region’s diverse community the design integrates local building traditions with a restored wetland, blurring the lines between performance space and biodiversity haven. 🔗 Discover our award-winning designs for art, culture and sport: https://lnkd.in/gxdXPAuy 🖼 Image 1 and 3 by WAX, Image 2 by Hassell #Architecture #CulturalPrecinctDesign #Design #ChinaDesign #SustainableDesign #ConcertHall Charcoalblue

We often overlook the subtle cues that can transform a public space. It's not just about adding greenery; it's about understanding the innate connection between people and nature. Jon Hazelwood, Principal at Hassell, possesses this rare understanding. He's not just a landscape designer; he's a curator of human experience, using nature as his medium. Jon's work on Laak Boorndap, an 18,000 square metre garden planned for the city of Melbourne on Wurundjeri Country, is a testament to this approach. Don't miss the chance to join Jon, alongside internationally renowned horticulturist James Hitchmough, plant scientist and researcher Claire Farrell and Yorta Yorta and Wiradjuri curator and lecturer Jirra Harvey at the Future Proofing Green Spaces forum to discover the advantages of nature-infused urban design and creating spaces that are both beautiful and beneficial. The event, hosted by Émer Harrington, is free to attend; however, registration is essential. Imagine a space where next-generation manufacturing meets the raw beauty of the earth. The recently completed First Building for the new city of Bradfield on Dharug Country — housing Stage 1 of the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF) — marks the launch of an industry-led hub designed to accelerate innovation. It's a place that will provide shared access to advanced technology, expertise, training and networking opportunities to establish Western Sydney as the new economic powerhouse in Australia's largest city. The building's central spine is designed to draw the public into its heart, inviting visitors to witness firsthand the innovation on show inside its manufacturing hall. But it's the sixteen rammed earth wall panels that steal the show. A serene, beautiful contrast against the high-tech interior, they're a deliberate nod to the surrounding Cumberland Plain. More than that, they're a masterclass in purposeful design: constructed on site from raw earth, the panels, which also act as natural climate control, can be broken down at the end of their life and reused.    Beyond its physical form, the First Building establishes a powerful precedent, a blueprint for sustainable city-building that will redefine Australia's urban landscape, starting with Bradfield City Centre. 🔗 Read more about the First Building here: https://lnkd.in/gXNcdm-g 📷 Image 1 and 3 by Mark Syke, Image 2 by Vinchy Wu (Hassell) #Hassell #PlacesPeopleLove #WesternSydney #BradfieldCityCentre #FirstBuilding #AMRF #Innovation #CityShaping #DesignwithCountry #RegenerativeDesign #SustainableFuture #Architecture #Design #LandscapeDesign Djinjama Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF) Bradfield Development Authority

What if a train line wasn't just about getting from A to B but about rewriting the story of a landscape? Think about it: 23 kilometres. That's how much of the Cumberland Plain on Dharug Country is being restored as part of the new Sydney Metro — Western Sydney Airport, a project spanning urban design, architecture, interior design and landscape architecture across six stations. This isn't your typical infrastructure project. It's part of Sydney Metro's largest native ecology restoration program, driven by a commitment to species biodiversity and high-quality public spaces. In deep collaboration with First Nations partners Djinjama, our design team asked, 'How do you build a city-shaping rail line that honours the land it traverses?' We listened to the stories of the Dharug people, worked with Sydney Metro's Connecting with Country Working Group, and obsessed over the Wianamatta landscape — that is defined by vast skies, long views to the horizon and ephemeral creeks. We understood that each station has its own unique narrative dictated by its community, cultural heritage, its geology, flora, fauna and history. True innovation isn't always about building something new. For our design team and First Nations partners, this is a train line that doesn't just connect places but connects us to the very soul of the land. 🔗 Learn more about Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport here: https://lnkd.in/g9QiDB_s 🖼 Imagery by Doug + Wolf   #SydneyMetro #DharugCountry #LandscapeArchitecture #UrbanDesign #Innovation #ConnectingWithCountry Djinjama Plenary Group Webuild Siemens RATP Dev

Congratulations to Lucy O'Driscoll, Managing Principal of our Brisbane studio and Andrew Noonan, Sustainable Design Lead — newly minted Fellows of the Australian Institute of Architects. Their elevation is a recognition of how they’ve reshaped their field. Andrew grasps a crucial truth: buildings aren't isolated objects. They're vital components of our planet's future. He champions better-than-net-zero, pushing beyond simple sustainability. He understands the unseen impact, how a structure can ripple through communities, ecosystems and lives. Lucy sees her work as a privilege. She understands collaboration's power, working with clients who dare to innovate. Her projects, like the University of Queensland’s Student Central, aren’t just buildings; they're catalysts for agile learning, places where partnerships flourish. Both Lucy and Andrew are connectors, not just creators. They see the unseen potential, the subtle ways design can transform. They understand that real change often comes from quiet, persistent work. 🔗 Learn more about Lucy and Andrew: https://lnkd.in/gmk9Dztn #Architecture #Design #Sustainability #AIAFellowship #AIA
