Construction is underway on a 50-storey tower that rises above Sydney’s 127-year-old former City Tattersalls Club on Pitt Street. The $800 million project includes refurbishing three heritage-listed buildings by Sheerin and Hennessy – including the 1891 Tattersalls Club – with a contemporary tower above. Named Sydney House, the development will feature 241 residences, a 135-room hotel, commercial space, retail tenancies, and high-end dining in the podium. A true collaboration, BVN Architecture, led by Principal, Phillip Rossington and Matthew Blair, has designed the 50-storey tower with interiors by BVN’s Principal, Sally Campbell. fjcstudio led by Richard Francis-Jones conceived designs for the heritage podium and restoration of the original 1891 building. ‘The contemporary reinterpretation of these arched details subtly links the forms while delineating new from old. This complementary approach enriches the reading of the heritage buildings, so they’re appreciated in a new light,’ Phillip Rossington. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eb3AKyYe

Blending heritage with contemporary vision, Sydney House harmonises past and present, redefining the city’s skyline. This thoughtfully designed mixed-use development pays homage to the 130+ year-old buildings at 194-204 Pitt Street, seamlessly integrating their late Victorian architecture with modern elegance. Inspired by the Free Classical style, the design reinterprets heritage elements in a bold new way. Watch BVN Architecture Principal Architect, Phillip Rossington, discuss the inspired design intent behind Sydney House—a collaboration with fjcstudio. The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct (JHHIP) has reached a critical construction milestone with the ‘Topping Out’ of the $835 million facility. Designed by BVN, the precinct is being delivered by Multiplex in partnership with Health Infrastructure NSW and Hunter New England Local Health District. John Hunter is one of the busiest hospitals in NSW, and the demand for critical health services is expected to rise as the Hunter region’s population grows by a projected 22% by 2036. The new JHHIP will see the existing John Hunter and John Hunter Children’s Hospitals expanded to include a brand-new Acute Services Building (ASB), providing an additional 40,000 square metres of clinical floor space over seven levels. To mark International Women's Day, we came together to celebrate, reflect and renew our commitment to accelerating progress towards gender equality. Two diverse panels of BVN women joined conversations in our Sydney and Brisbane Studios to share their achievements, challenges and experiences across their architecture, design and technology careers. As a collective, we paused to reflect on what BVN is doing to help close the gender gap by monitoring gender composition, supporting flexible working, offering paid parental leave, and committing to equitable recruitment. Plus, we launched a new sponsorship program committed to gender parity! Thanks to our hosts lisa fathalla and Isabella Aliberti and our panellists, Mariangela Martinez Alvarez, Carole Mahe, Michelle Mo, chloe naughton, Claire Oh, Rebecca Qin, Ingrid Anderson, Jessica Baisley, Maria Guardala, Elynda Naru, and Hannah Rowlands Read more highlights from the day here: https://lnkd.in/gUJfFXEK #BVN #BVNArchitecture #IWD2025 #WomenInDesign #GenderEquity #DiversityAndInclusion

What would a ‘City of Yes’ look like to you? Inspired by New York’s recent groundbreaking ‘City of Yes’ reforms, we’re asking what a ‘City of Yes’ would look like for Melbourne—and wherever cities value vibrant street life. Join us this Wednesday at MPavilion for a conversation with leading architects and urban thinkers, including Bill Dowzer (BVN, Re-Ply), Professor kerstin thompson (KTA), and Anna Jankovic (Simulaa), moderated by Mitch Page (BVN). We’ll explore re-ply, an award-winning initiative transforming urban streetscapes by repurposing plywood from NYC’s pandemic-era streetscapes into modular outdoor dining spaces—an idea directly shaped and supported by New York's ‘City of Yes’ reforms. What can our cities learn from these precedents? How might more strategic urbanism help us face the challenges of economic resilience, housing affordability, and the changing rhythms of city life? What’s one urban initiative you wish your city would ‘say yes’ to tomorrow? Come join the conversation and find out! 📍 MPavilion, Wednesday 5 March, 6:00-700PM 🔗 Free sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gZy6MHS8 #CitiesOfYes #MPavilion #RePly #UrbanFutures #Melbourne

The new Sydney Fish Market’s roof is now complete! The last of 400 roof cassettes has been secured atop the 200 m-long undulating timber canopy, completing the new Sydney Fish Market’s dynamic roof form. The giant solar roof generates power, captures rainwater and draws sunlight and air inside. It’s a testament to cutting-edge engineering and environmentally sustainable design. Spanning 20,000m² (nearly three football fields), it comprises 594 glulam beams — the longest at 32 metres and weighing over 7 tonnes — and 407 solar panel-lined cassettes, collectively weighing 2,500 tonnes. Each cassette was assembled at Glebe Island, transported by barge, and lifted into place — precision work on an ambitious scale. We’re proud to have been part of this collaborative design journey, which is a special moment for Infrastructure NSW, 3XN/GXN, Multiplex and ASPECT Studios.
