📢 Today in the #LAMASUS_early_career_researchers campaign: Researcher at ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Claudia Magnapera's research interest lies at the intersection between #agricultural and #environmental economics, focusing on #policy-driven strategies to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture, with an emphasis on farmers' adoption of climate-friendly innovations and behavioral economic approaches. 💡 In LAMASUS, Claudia designs and implements an experimental approach to elicit arable farmers' preferences for carbon sequestration practices, assess the effectiveness of policy incentives, and estimate the carbon price required to encourage adoption. 💡 New LAMASUS public deliverable 🌿 We explored how two leading biodiversity models — IIASA-PREDICTS and GLOBIO — estimate the impacts of #landuse and land management (LUM) across Europe. Both approaches reveal a shared conclusion: LUM significantly affects biodiversity, and smarter land-use planning is essential for recovery. 🔍 Key Findings: - Species richness and community similarity are consistently lower in croplands than in primary habitats. - Differences in abundance impacts suggest complementary insights between models. - Both models show similar spatial patterns of biodiversity intactness (2000–2018), with low change over time due to static land-use distribution. - Benelux shows lower intactness, while Scandinavia fares better. 🚨 Policy Implications: - Biodiversity gains require both habitat restoration and de-intensification of agriculture. - EU-wide conservation planning is more efficient than fragmented national efforts. - Future scenarios combining biodiversity, carbon, and economic cost analyses (LAMASUS WP5 & WP6) will support balanced, science-driven policy.
