🌱 EU Takes a Major Step Toward #HealthierSoils 🌍 EU co-legislators have reached a provisional agreement on a new #SoilMonitoringLaw, a crucial development aligned with the EU’s goal of achieving healthy soils by #2050. 🌿🌱 What does it mean? ✅ #SoilHealth will be monitored in all EU countries using #HarmonisedIndicators. ✅ #Farmers will receive better support, training, and advice, without new obligations. ✅ #MemberStates will assess and address contaminated sites. ✅ A watch list of emerging soil pollutants (including PFAS) is in the works. Final Workshop of the #AtlanticCentralRegion! 🌍 On February 10th, the final workshop of the Atlantic Region gathered 80 stakeholders in central Flanders (Belgium) to present #SoildiverAgro #CaseStudies 6 and 7. 🔬✨ Organized by Inagro vzw and ILVO (Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek), the session focused on #Fertilization and #SoilFertility in #OrganicFarming. Between 23% and 44% of EU and UK agricultural lands are at risk of losing organic carbon in their topsoil, our latest study reveals. 🌱📉 Soils are a crucial carbon reservoir, with EU agricultural topsoil alone containing over ten times the CO2 of current EU annual total greenhouse gas emissions. However, the climate crisis has increased the loss of soil organic carbon. This could pose a significant threat to soil productivity and climate resilience, as organic carbon is essential for maintaining soil structure, water-holding capacity, and nutrient supply. The event brought together experts to discuss challenges and share updates on the #SpanishAgriculturalSector. 🌱🚜 🌿 SoildiverAgro contributed to the #OralCommunicationPanels with insights on #SoilBiodiversity assessment in European #CroppingSystems.  🌿  Our partners Raúl Zornoza and Eva Lloret Sevilla from UPCT presented key findings from WP3, researched in collaboration with our partners from the different regions.
