JOB SEARCH FIX 2018
In 2017 I wrote a few articles about what you need to know to be an effective white collar job seeker in the Heartland. Well, 2018 is here and life still is in neutral for many job seekers. Why, and how can I fix it ? You can fix it by understanding first that you are a commodity. There are hundreds of job seekers, no matter if you are an engineer, sales person, HR, IT, admin asst, social media marketer, etc. This isn't my opinion it's a fact. That means I have a lot of competition. Compare this to Lindsay Vonn the U.S. Olympic skier who has won two medals so far; but she is disappointed they are not gold. She said on the today show this morning that at least she knew she did her best. She practiced continuously and had good equipment. Are you giving your job search 100 ? Do you have the skills you need to compete ? Peggy Fleming was on NBC on Tuesday night showing what she did in the 70's when she won gold in women's figure skating. That wouldn't get 4th place now. You have to do better than you used to and know more. Many of you got down sized, reorganized or fired because you haven't kept your skills up to date. Sorry team but that's why most of you are job seekers and not job stayers. Staying with one company for 10+ years anymore is only wishful thinking. It's not the real world. Go online and find out what companies are looking for in your field in the way of current computer skills and training. Most states will have a job assistance office in the major cities who will a lot of time pay for you to get retrained. Wow ! free! Yes and take advantage of it . Because if your resume doesn't have any big accomplishments or new training in the past 1-2 years--------you are putting yourself at a disadvantage. Do your research on what others have you don't and then get it. In our group OJTtulsa.org we have seen 3000+ in 9 years. The ones who say "I am going to engage and do what I need to starting today" are the ones easiest for us or your friends to help you get hired. Start here and come back here next week. You can do this.
