Diverse roles & diverse industries. How to build a positioning statement?

Diverse roles & diverse industries. How to build a positioning statement?

You just found your first job, everything was nice and new. Time goes by and you feel that the role (and/or the industry) is not suitable for you anymore. You move to another environment, you learn, and enjoy completely different tasks and responsibilities, until… you change again for a new challenge.

With over 10 years of experience and several professional roles in different industries, how can you build a strong positioning statement to convince a recruiter and land a new job? In other terms, how can you market yourself to be more valuable for employers?

We have all questioned our career path at least once. Was it right? How can I move forward without affecting my profile or employability?

Similar to our body, each career profile is built around a spine.

Your “professional spine” is made up of your experiences, knowledge, and skills. The more diverse they are, the more confusing your personal brand. The trick, is to identify the “lowest common multiple” between each employment. It could be the “type of clients”, “type of working environment”, “a specific geographical area you have been posted”, etc. Let’s take my own path as an example: from marketing territories in public institutions, then contracting with private owners & tenants (real estate agencies), to providing HR and career management services; my profile is to assist individuals and foreign companies to settle a business or a career in a new country.

We are all unique in our personal brand. Analyze your entire career. Ferret out details in all your different roles and find the “lowest common multiple”. Then, you will be able to strengthen your positioning statement and revamp your resume accordingly.

Happy New Job in 2021.
