For school leaders, architects, designers, educators, or anyone who has been involved in a major renovation or new construction project for a school district — what has been your favorite part of the process? Amanda Hastings' perspective resonates deeply with episode one of the new Second Class Foundation series, What We Show Them that highlights the challenges schools face when they’re in desperate need of new facilities. Some of the most rewarding moments come from hearing how small improvements, like a functioning HVAC system or addressing structural issues, can significantly impact students and staff. But the truly inspiring moments happen when the community starts to dream bigger. We’d love to hear about your favorite moments from a past renovation or new construction project. What stands out for you? Understanding School Construction Costs 🏗️💡 Building a new school is an exciting yet challenging venture, and one of the most crucial components of the process is accurately estimating school construction costs. These costs can vary significantly depending on factors like location, design, facilities, and the scope of the project. Here's a breakdown of the key steps and considerations for estimating school construction costs: 📍 Location – The cost of construction can vary greatly depending on the region and local market conditions. 🏫 Design & Facilities – School design, including specialized classrooms (science labs, art rooms), administrative areas, and recreational spaces, will affect the budget. 🔨 Construction Materials & Labor – The choice of materials and local labor costs are major contributors to overall expenses. 💻 Technology Infrastructure – Building a school to accommodate modern IT infrastructure is a crucial investment. 📅 Timeline & Project Management – Accurate time and resource management are essential to avoid delays and unexpected costs. 📊 Contingency Planning – Always include a contingency budget for unforeseen costs or design changes during construction. At GSE, we provide detailed case studies and guidance to help you accurately estimate and manage your school construction costs, ensuring a smooth and cost-effective building process. 👉 Learn more about how to manage school construction costs: https://bit.ly/4cXki6j #SchoolConstruction #EducationInvestment #BuildingSchools #SchoolDesign #SchoolManagement #ConstructionCosts #GSE

Of the more than 1,000 educational projects completed by DMR Architects, more than 80% can be categorized as reinvestment relationships that have spanned decades, touched most of the districts’ buildings and guided the community through major moments. DMR has supported at least 30 districts through 25 projects each, a window into the role that an architect plays in the process of providing modern, safe and stimulating infrastructure for learning. In addition to choosing a capable designer, choosing the right architectural partner for these projects means choosing a firm that can identify unique funding sources, comprehend pragmatic functions of the building, consider how construction projects will disrupt the existing ecosystem and examine every opportunity for a chance to improve functionality. #NJarchitects
