Absolutely and fully support this. My challenge is how to support VET when the educational systems are themselves discrediting and underplaying this major educational sector. And there is a lot of confusion when we talk about adults undertaking VET education through non-formal and informal structures. Also a lot of confusion in tertiary - non HE VET courses (VET does not need to stop at lower secondary or upper secondary level). A lot of field to work with :)

What we know for sure: 1. Vocational training is key for employabilty and should not be considered as a second choice for youth, in Europe and beyond. 2. There is room for improvement in the way vocational training is delivered across the board, in terms of inclusion, effectiveness, relevance and contribution to citizenship. 3. Plenty of cases of vocational excellence exist, where training providers collaborate with companies and other actors, locally and internationally, as well as guidelines and ideas on how to improve the way vocational systems and schools work. The problem is that all these cases and information is scattered on the web, and difficult to find... No, wait a moment, now the Vocational Excellence e-Library exists!! Working in partnership with the BAMEed Network, and with Leah Morris at Wyndham James Consultancy, we are leading an initiative to address the lack of diversity amongst teaching staff, with a new Graduate Trainee scheme that targets under-represented communities. David Mulae (pictured), our Assistant Head Pastoral and EDI Lead, has spearheaded the scheme, working with senior management and human resources as well as external bodies. He said: ‘We recognise the lack of representation across minoritised backgrounds in teaching and have a stated aim to increase that diversity in line with the diversity of our pupil body. Allana Gay (pictured), Founder of the BAMEed Network said: ‘One of the biggest barriers to graduates from GMH backgrounds entering the teaching profession is the low acceptance rates to ITT programmes (NFER 2024). Add to this the personal barriers of needing experience to gain employment, housing and student debt, and you have a system that limits access. In my ninth year of work, here are some achievements that I have done: 1. Build an application for employee education data to make the work process more effective; 2. Generate a monitoring site for the inclusion of employee education degrees so that all related parties can actually monitor the progress of updating educational degree; 3. Create a site contains anything about education for employees so that the important and latest information can be known by all employees just by opening this site. Besides, i also continue my education to a higher level from a diploma to a bachelor’s degree.

Meet Lisandi & Yudo, who, through the combined efforts of @nihi and the @sumbahospitalityfoundation, have the platform to turn their dreams into reality. Through the cross-training program between NIHI Sumba and the Sumba Hospitality Foundation, students like Lisandi & Yudo have the opportunity to train and apply everything they’ve learned in their vocational hospitality training. This program isn’t just about gaining experience—it’s about meeting new people, expanding knowledge, and building confidence. Each year, 72 students are welcomed by NIHI Sumba, with the program offering full-board accommodation, medical care, transportation, and comprehensive support. Dreams need nurturing to grow, and together, NIHI Sumba and the Sumba Hospitality Foundation are using education to pave the way for the youth of Sumba to achieve theirs.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the CCCAOE Conference in Palm Desert, CA. The sessions were engaging and highlighted the critical connection between education and careers. Three key takeaways stood out: 1️⃣ Teaching both the ethics and practical applications of AI are essential to prepare a future-ready workforce. 2️⃣ Alternative education pathways—like pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, and work-based learning—are increasingly valued by today’s generation and align with labor market demands. 3️⃣ Climate-action jobs are becoming a clear focus in the workforce conversation. What’s especially interesting is the alignment with topics discussed at a workforce development conference I attended in September. The overlap between these two spaces shows how synergy between education and workforce development can drive real impact, paving the way for a vibrant and equitable economy in California. #WorkforceDevelopment #FutureOfWork #AIinEducation #ClimateActionJobs #Apprenticeships #EducationAndCareers #EquityInEducation #LifelongLearning https://lnkd.in/ga-UxSi4
