EFIS Centre is leading the EU-funded SUBMERSE project that is prototyping and deploying innovative technologies into existing submarine cables to monitor the Earth and its systems. The project has key areas of potential impacts, including scientific advancements, innovation through standardisation of technical infrastructure and addressing key societal and environmental challenges. On 4th-5th September, our team members Matías Barberis Rami & Carmela - カルメラ Asero - アセロ led the first workshop on impact, sustainability and exploitation of the project and the infrastructure. This workshop was held as during a project workshop in Potsdam 🇩🇪 hosted by Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam - German Research Centre GFZ Follow the SUBMERSE project page to stay updated with recent developments. #UPGRADE: Innovation and Collaboration for the Resilience of Linear Infrastructure Networks (LLI) Research and cultural exchange between research institutes, universities and companies are crucial for enhancing the knowledge required to maintain high standards in linear infrastructure networks (#LLI). With this vision, the UPGRADE project - MSCA Staff Exchange was born. Comprised of 11 leading research organizations and 6 companies from Europe, Asia, and Oceania, UPGRADE specializes in #EarthObservation, #engineering, and #informatics. The project has carefully built a strong network to facilitate the exchange of research personnel and innovations across all aspects. VdA participates in "Sustainable Living Innovators" Magda Cocco integrated the panel of speakers at the 5th edition of Sustainable Living Innovators, a development program for young people promoted by CEiiA // Centre of Engineering and Product Development, with the aim of empowering them to value knowledge and technology. This year’s programme challenged participants to answer the question: "How can space technologies help solve Earth's problems?". To this end, the program was divided into four thematic areas: "New Space: Challenges and Opportunities", "Development Methodologies and Teamwork", "Engineering and Product Development" and "Application of Space Technology". Magda Cocco was one of the speakers in the first module, in which she presented a session on "Space Regulation and Governance". In this session, Magda Cocco proposed a reflection on the major challenges of space governance and regulation. 📘 The European Technology and Innovation Platform Smart Networks for Energy Transition (ETIP SNET) published a new policy paper. The document provides concrete evidence of the potential impact of innovative #energy solutions, focusing on strategies and challenges related to moving them from research to commercial markets within the EU. In particular, it highlights 45 European and two national projects that have been successfully implemented and show strategies to overcome commercialization barriers in #energyinnovation, such as securing funding, simplifying regulations, and fostering collaboration.
