NHAZCA attende today the IRIDE Spazio System InfoDay, an event organized by the Italian Space Agency (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana) with the support of the European Space Agency (European Space Agency - ESA). We are proud to share our work on #monitoring the #landslide at Riomaggiore along Via dell'Amore in Cinque Terre, Regione Liguria. In October 2024, we installed an #interferometric radar and a high-resolution #photomonitoring system to continuously track the movements of the rock slope. This advanced radar keeps a constant watch over key #reflectors, exposed rock faces, and the protective net barriers—regardless of whether it’s day or night, rain or shine. During daylight hours, our system captures high-resolution images every five minutes, enabling us to detect even the slightest changes in the landscape. While our #team monitors the data in real time, the onsite #rock specialists are hard at work restoring the protective net system displaced by the landslide. This integrated approach not only enhances safety but also supports the ongoing efforts to #stabilize the site and preserve the integrity of this iconic coastal area. On March 13th, the Campi Flegrei area was hit by a seismic shock of magnitude 4.4, the strongest #earthquake recorded recently. This event is part of a volcanic process known as bradyseism, which involves the uplifting of the ground. Since 2005, the area has shown a progressive rise in the ground level, with an intensification of the phenomenon over the past 12 months. This uplift has been associated with an increase in #seismic activity, both in terms of frequency and magnitude of the earthquakes. Attached is an #interferogram obtained from the SAR images of the Sentinel-1 sensor from the European Space Agency - ESA, which shows the ground deformation between March 2024 and March 2025, with maximum values of around 18 cm in the center of the caldera.
