🌿 Green Tech was shining at #VIVATECH! 🌿 I was thrilled to see Green Tech in the spotlight at VIVATECH, a couple of weeks ago. A few facts I found interesting to be reminded of: 💪15% of start-ups showcased were Clean Tech  📈Investment in Clean Tech is set to double by 2027 💸France  already counts 3,000 Clean Tech start-ups, with 33% of tech funds raised last year going to that sector 🤝Most large corporations present at Vivatech were showcasing innovative partnerships with those Clean Techs The key challenges the sector is facing were well distilled in the VivaTech panels: 💰Financing gaps beyond Series A for “First of a Kind Innovations” and longer-horizon ROI and the need for innovating financing schemes 🫰“Green Premium” for some of those new technologies ⚖️The complex measurement of holistic environmental impacts, beyond just carbon 🤔The many barriers for companies to leverage those innovations 🌡️ A recent Harvard/Northwestern study predicts that if temperatures rise by +2°C by 2100, 50% of GDP and 31% of global purchasing power are at risk. The urgency is clear. Yesterday I had the pleasure to moderate the breakout "Energy and Decarbonization at the Dalus Capital LatAm Innovation Summit. Here's what we discussed: ✅ The false dichotomy between deploying existing solutions and inventing new solutions. Companies in the LatAm Climate Tech Summit represented both sides, and there are opportunities in both fronts. Innovation is a common ingredient, since we have a unique set of conditions in each country. ✅ Even though regulations are in general behind innovations, there are two positive forces creating a demand for more innovation in the ecosystem: local governments and corporations. Both have a more ambitious decarbonization roadmap than country-level institutions, and both have opened a space to invite startups as part of their solution ✅ Energy transition is happening everywhere, even at large O&G companies (even NOCs!), and corporates that have led the way to decarbonization in our region, self-regulating in accordance with their HQ mandates ✅ LatAm Energy entrepreneurs, like is the case across all the Climate Tech sub-verticals, need a few things from the ecosystem: funding, partnerships and talent. Panelists from diverse industries, including renewable energy and financial services, shared valuable insights on the growing responsibility of large companies to lead this charge. Key Takeaways Technology as a Driver of Sustainable Business Models Businesses are facing growing expectations to align profitability with sustainability. The panel shared examples of how AI-powered solutions are helping optimise energy usage, minimise waste, and predict environmental challenges. For instance, in the mining sector, AI is being used to monitor water consumption and reduce carbon emissions, showing that operations can be both sustainable and financially viable. The Importance of Sustainability in Business Sustainability has evolved beyond being a moral responsibility. It is now a fundamental part of long-term business success. Companies that embrace sustainable practices not only attract environmentally aware consumers but also create resilience against future challenges. One of the speakers remarked that investing in AI-driven sustainability efforts is essentially investing in the longevity of the business. A Personal Reflection This discussion reinforced the need for large corporations to integrate sustainability into their strategies and operations. Emerging technologies such as AI are not just tools for improving efficiency. They are powerful enablers of societal and environmental transformation. However, the panelists also reminded us that technology alone cannot solve these challenges.
