This week, Yorba Linda Water District, in a collaborative effort with Orange County Fire Authority and the City of Yorba Linda, hosted a representative from California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara's office to address the challenges homeowners are experiencing with insurance providers. 🛡️ The agencies penned a joint letter highlighting their efforts to allow homeowners to download and provide to their insurance agencies if they face insurance challenges. This crucial meeting highlighted YLWD's proactive measures to mitigate the risk of wildfires with the support of California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), providing assurance to their constituents and a resource for homeowners to advocate for insurance availability protection. 🚁 #Insurance #DistrictsAdvocate #WildfirePreparedness

Today, I attended a powerful demonstration of Yorba Linda’s heli-hydrants—an innovative tool that’s transforming wildfire response in our community. These water tanks allow firefighting helicopters to refill in just six minutes, providing first responders with a fast, strategic way to combat fires, even in hard-to-reach areas. Yorba Linda currently has two heli-hydrants, with a third on the way, thanks to the proactive efforts of the Yorba Linda Water District. They’re also working with Brea as they install their own, strengthening wildfire protection across North Orange County. Today’s demonstration for the State Insurance Commissioner’s office wasn’t just about showcasing this life-saving technology—it’s part of our ongoing efforts to address rising insurance rates and policy drops impacting residents. Last March, I worked diligently with community members and City staff to bring the Insurance Commissioner’s office to Yorba Linda for a packed meeting with concerned residents. Unfortunately, the solutions offered were projected years into the future. As the crisis worsened, Councilman Rodriguez and I led a resolution in August—unanimously passed by our City Council—urging the State to take immediate action. Yorba Linda was the first city to do so, and since then, numerous cities, counties, and agencies have followed our lead. To further support residents, the City of Yorba Linda, Yorba Linda Water District, and Orange County Fire Authority have authored a joint letter outlining the many proactive fire prevention measures our community has taken. Residents can use this letter when communicating with insurance providers to demonstrate the steps we’ve implemented to safeguard our city. Find the letter here: https://lnkd.in/gF8rHpFU We remain committed to innovation, collaboration, and action to protect Yorba Linda from wildfires and fight for real solutions to the insurance crisis. #YorbaLinda #HeliHydrant #WildfirePrevention #PublicSafety #InsuranceCrisis #Firefighting

  • Today, YLWD, in partnership with the Orange County Fire Authority and the City of Yorba Linda, hosted a representative from the California Insurance Commissioner’s Office to address the challenges homeowners in our service area are experiencing with insurance providers due to the increased fire risk in our region. To address widespread concerns and provide assistance to our community, YLWD, OCFA, and the City of Yorba Linda released a joint letter that emphasizes our proactive measures in mitigating wildfire risk through fire protection strategies and innovative water infrastructure such as our Heli-Hydrants. 🚒 🤝 💧 Residents with homeowner’s insurance challenges are encouraged to submit this letter to their insurance company. ☝️ While there is no guarantee that this letter will resolve individual homeowner’s insurance problems, our goal is to ensure that every homeowner in our community has the support and information they need to manage their insurance issues. ➡️ To learn more about this event and view/download the joint letter, click here: https://bit.ly/3QqKSvo 🔗 ➡️ For more information on YLWD’s wildfire preparedness response, please call 714-701-3000 or email pio@ylwd.com. ✉️
