  • 🐾 Not your average Easter egg hunt! 🐣 Our HRD K9s from the Urban Search & Rescue team joined in on some Easter fun—using their incredible noses to track down hidden eggs instead of their usual work helping locate people in disasters. These hardworking Human Remains Detection (HRD) pups are trained for the toughest missions, but today, they got to enjoy a well-deserved break (with plenty of tail wags and belly rubs) 💛 Happy Easter from everyone at OCFA! 🐰

  • As Dispatch Week comes to an end, we would like to recognize outstanding members of our Emergency Command Center team for their performance in 2024. These awards celebrate exceptional performance, dedication, and contributions that exemplify the best of what we do. WILBERT MEDINA: A Shift – Dispatcher of the Year This award is presented to Dispatcher Medina who consistently goes above and beyond – not only in call handling and radio, but his commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and supporting the mission of the ECC. He is a solid role model to others, leads by example, and has a steady presence in both routine and high-pressure situations. SAMANTHA WEBB: Training Officer of the Year This award recognizes one of our Training Officers who has played a key role in shaping the next generation of dispatchers. Webb brings patience, knowledge, and a passion for mentoring. Her dedication to training and impact on others has not gone unnoticed. WILBERT MEDINA: Most 911 Calls Answered This award goes to the dispatcher who answered the most 911 calls during 2024. Congratulations, Wilbert Medina, for answering 9,091 911 calls. This number represents thousands of people in need who were met with a calm, competent voice on the other end of the line. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all our dispatchers for their dedication!

  • Thirty years ago, 168 lives were lost in the Oklahoma City bombing. California Task Force 5, the Orange County-based FEMA response team, deployed 62 personnel to assist in the aftermath. OCFA Battalion Chief Morganstern, who was a firefighter at the time of the bombing and part of the response sent by OCFA, is back in Oklahoma City today, proudly representing all those who served there as part of Task Force 5. We are honored to recognize the members of the OCFA who responded to this tragic event and continue to serve both the OCFA and the nation as part of CA-TF5. Thank you to Mike Morganstern, Mike Boyle, John Lawson, Steve Chenot, and Dr. Audrey Konow for all you did in Oklahoma City — and all you continue to do today.
