Indiana University Bloomington is propelling human-centered engineering into a new era with a $75 million investment that will support new, cutting-edge academic programs, top-notch faculty, and state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to the increasingly critical field. As part of Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, IU Bloomington will launch new degree programs in emerging areas like computer engineering, robotics, bioengineering, nanoengineering and microelectronics, and electrical engineering. These new academic programs will be offered in addition to the existing degrees in intelligent systems engineering, with some launching as early as next year. Proud to share the release of a first-of-its-kind report by Ivy Tech Community College and TEConomy Partners that quantifies what many of us have long known — Indiana’s economy is rapidly evolving, and with it, the demand for non-degree, skills-based training is accelerating. Over the next 10 years, 82,000 Hoosiers will need to upskill and earn key postsecondary credentials to meet the workforce demands in critical sectors like advanced manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and logistics. This report gives us a clear roadmap — and at Ivy Tech, we are ready. Across our 19 campuses and through statewide academic and Career Link teams, we are expanding apprenticeships, Achieve Your Degree partnerships, and non-credit skills training to meet this moment. The data is clear: ✅ 69% of job openings in key industries will require more than a high school diploma, but less than a four-year degree. ✅ Employers are looking for both technical and human skills. ✅ The time to scale our efforts — and our partnerships — is now.
