Happy Birthday, Dr. Jane Goodall! ✨💚 It’s #GoodallDay! Today, we celebrate the incredible legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall—a scientist, conservationist, and advocate whose groundbreaking research transformed our understanding of chimpanzees. Through decades of dedication, she has redefined conservation by recognizing the deep connection between wildlife, forests, and local communities. Her work has inspired generations, and through the Roots & Shoots youth program—now active in over 100 countries—she has fostered a global movement of young conservation leaders. Today, Dr. Jane Goodall travels the world, writing, speaking, and spreading hope through action, encouraging each of us to “use the gift of our life to make the world a better place.” One Tree Planted is honored to partner with the The Jane Goodall Institute to plant 3 million trees in the Albertine Rift—one of Africa’s most important biodiversity hotspots. Stretching across Uganda and beyond, the Albertine Rift is home to thousands of species, including endangered chimpanzees. With deforestation threatening these vital ecosystems, we’re restoring forests, creating wildlife corridors, and empowering local communities to be champions for conservation. These trees will help: 🌱 Reforest protected areas 🌳 Connect fragmented habitats for chimpanzees 👨👩👧 Support thousands of local livelihoods 🌍 Sequester carbon and protect biodiversity Dr. Goodall’s lifelong commitment to conservation reminds us that every action—big or small—can make a difference. Let’s celebrate her incredible work and legacy! Drop a comment with your birthday wishes for Dr. Goodall and your hopes for the future of our planet. ✨ 🌎 📸: Our Chief Programs Officer with Jane Goodall at the 1t.org meeting on March 25th, where she delivered the keynote address during the evening reception.

750,000 trees and counting! 🌱🔥 We’re proud to grow our partnership with Hyundai Motor America, bringing life back to wildfire-affected areas in California. Big shoutout to their team for getting their hands dirty at Bolsa Chica! 🌱🙌
Expanding our partnership with One Tree Planted, we will plant 110,000 trees in California to support wildfire reforestation efforts. This brings our total to 750,000 trees planted together since 2022. Our team recently volunteered with One Tree Planted at the Bolsa Chica Land Trust in Huntington Beach, CA. We not only cleared invasive species, but also planted and watered over 120 native plants to help restore Bolsa Chica’s Coastal Sage Scrub and Grassland habitat. 🌱✨ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ghRq9nJz

Happy Earth Month! 🌎 🌱 Nature can't wait. Nature is in our hands. 🙌 Forests are the lifeline of our planet—they clean our air, store carbon, and provide shelter for 80% of Earth’s terrestrial species. But nature is in trouble. With up to 40% of the planet’s land degraded, ecosystems, biodiversity, and communities are at risk. This #EarthMonth, let’s take action. Planting trees is one of the most powerful ways to restore our planet, rebuild habitats, and create a more sustainable future. When you plant with us, you’re not just making an impact—you’re joining a global movement for change. It’s more than a moment: it’s a movement. Join the movement today! https://lnkd.in/eCArS_VE

Restoring Landscapes, Rebuilding Futures in Timor-Leste. 🌱\ -- Across the world, deforestation and poverty are deeply linked. In Timor-Leste, where forests have declined since 1975, communities face worsening food insecurity, water shortages, and economic hardship. For over a decade, our on-ground partner has worked with 1,200+ farmers to break this cycle—offering annual payments for tree planting, restoring landscapes, and generating income. Today, 252,000+ trees have been planted, sequestering 80,000+ tonnes of CO₂, and supporting local economies through carbon credit sales Our on-ground partner’s Gold Standard-certified program promotes climate action, gender equity, and sustainable development, empowering families to improve livelihoods while fighting deforestation. 👏 By combining technology, community leadership, and reforestation, we’re proving that trees don’t just restore land—they rebuild futures.

Along Costa Rica's Coastal Maritime Zone—the first 200 meters from the high tide line—many beaches were once home to lush coastal forests. Decades ago, before conservation laws were in place, deforestation for livestock left these areas bare. Now, they’re public lands or protected areas, but invasive grasses have made natural regeneration nearly impossible. That’s where active restoration comes in. This projects starts by studying nearby healthy coastal forests, identifying native species, and assessing water availability. Then, a long-term planting plan is tailored to each site's unique conditions. Key steps in the process: 🌱 Removing invasive grasses to give trees a chance to thrive 🌱 Growing native species from seed, cuttings, or seedlings with strong root systems 🌱 Planting in high density to encourage vertical growth and faster canopy formation 🌱 Selecting species based on salinity resistance and ecological role 🌱 Managing overseeding and thinning to create a self-sustaining forest The goal? To restore the natural succession of coastal forests, ensuring they can thrive without continued intervention. Over time, these ecosystems will once again provide critical habitat, protect shorelines, and support biodiversity. Reforestation isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about reviving ecosystems and strengthening resilience. Let’s keep growing!

"When a forest breathes out, we breathe in. We are literally interdependent." - Suzanne Simard, Professor of Forest Ecology Happy #InternationalDayofForests! 🌳🌲 We don’t just live near forests—we live because of them. They provide the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the resources that sustain communities worldwide. In return, forests rely on us to protect and restore them. At One Tree Planted, we pour our hearts into restoring these vital landscapes—for people and the planet. Today, and every day, it's important to recognize our deep connection to forests and take action to ensure they thrive. #reforestation #planttrees #impact #forests

Rahway, New Jersey, faces major environmental challenges—poor air quality, urban heat, and polluted waterways—all made worse by limited tree cover. But change is happening. In this mini-documentary, we explore how Groundwork Elizabeth, backed by local leadership, is transforming the city with over 400 newly planted trees and an innovative Miyawaki microforest in Grover Cleveland Park. 🌱 This densely planted, fast-growing forest will restore biodiversity, improve air and water quality, and provide hands-on environmental education for local students. Each tree planted is a step toward a healthier city—because small actions, over time, create a big impact.

Last week, John Waweru Ngahu, Project Manager here at One Tree Planted, had the privilege of visiting the The Jane Goodall Institute Uganda, one of our long-standing partners. Walking through the thriving forests from our 2021 projects, he saw firsthand the incredible transformation we've contributed to—restored ecosystems, revitalized habitats, and strengthened community participation. Together, we’ve planted hundreds of thousands of trees, and John was inspired to witness the impact of this work on both biodiversity and local livelihoods. The Albertine Rift is home to diverse ecosystems and chimpanzee habitats that rely on forest connectivity. The Jane Goodall Institute has been a global leader in conservation, integrating agroforestry, afforestation, and community engagement to combat habitat degradation. Led by Executive Director James Byamukama and Project Director Peter Apelle, the team balances forest conservation with community benefits. Dr. Jane Goodall, a renowned conservationist and UN Messenger of Peace, emphasizes the link between chimpanzee conservation and human well-being. We’re proud to support this mission and deepen our collaboration in restoring forests and empowering communities. 🌱💚
