We train farmers in agroforestry to build vibrant regional economies, thriving food systems, and a healthier planet.
About us
Around the world, modern and industrialized farming practices are destroying the environment—and, at the same time, failing to provide reliable income and nourishment for the farmers we all depend on to survive. At TREES, we recognize that unsustainable land use is the root cause of our most pressing challenges. We confront these challenges by serving the people at the heart of our global food systems: farmers and their families. As a global leader in agroforestry training for over 30 years, TREES provides hands-on, immersive education, skill building, and support, encouraging farmers to work with nature, not against it. Our signature methodology, the Forest Garden Approach, helps farmers transform their land with thousands of fast-growing, ecologically appropriate trees and dozens of other crops, creating new possibilities for themselves and their communities. By embracing sustainable land practices, farmers are reclaiming their agency, breaking the cycles of climate change and generational poverty, and rebuilding our food systems from the ground up.

When a farmer plants trees, everything changes. Trees improve soil health, increase water retention, and protect crops from extreme weather. But most importantly, they give farmers options. The option to grow diverse foods, earn multiple streams of income, and break the cycle of hunger and poverty. That’s what we mean by choice. And that’s what we’re planting together. This Earth Month, let's stand for what we stand on. Learn more at trees.org #SFWYSO #OurPowerOurPlanet #ClimateAction #EarthDay

Join us in May at the East Africa Carbon Markets Forum where we will have various members of our team presenting on the ins and outs of launching a carbon project.
Carbon markets must do more than reduce emissions—they must create lasting opportunities for people and the planet. That’s why we are teaming up with Trees for the Future (TREES), a UN World Restoration Flagship recognized as one of the most effective large-scale ecosystem restoration efforts on the planet. TREES is transforming farming by revitalizing degraded land and breaking cycles of climate change and generational poverty. Through their Forest Garden Approach, farmers restore their land with thousands of trees and diverse crops, ensuring food security, economic stability, and long-term carbon sequestration. TREES shows what’s possible when sustainability, innovation, and community come together with purpose. By giving farmers the knowledge and resources to restore their land, they are proving that #climateaction and economic growth can truly go hand in hand.

Farmers are the Future of Climate Action 🏆 When we talk about climate solutions, we often think of new technology or policy changes. But some of the most powerful solutions are already in the hands of farmers. 🌍 Farmers manage over half the world’s habitable land (FAO) 🌳 They grow the food we eat and can plant the trees we need 💪 They protect the soil, capture carbon, and restore ecosystems In the face of climate change, farmers aren’t just adapting—they’re leading, if we let them. With regenerative practices like agroforestry, they’re healing the land, fighting food insecurity, and building a more sustainable future for all of us. By supporting farmers, we’re investing in real, lasting climate action. Let’s stand with them. Let’s stand for what we stand on. #SFWYSO #OurPowerOurPlanet #ClimateAction #EarthDay

A Small Tree with Big Benefits 🐄 Calliandra isn’t just a tree—it’s a powerhouse for farmers. This nitrogen-fixing tree improves soil health, prevents erosion, and provides high-protein fodder for livestock, boosting milk production and animal health. We’ve seen firsthand how agroforestry species like Calliandra transform farms and livelihoods. By integrating trees into their landscapes, farmers create sustainable, resilient food systems that nourish their families, animals, and the environment. Check out this article on Calliandra’s impact. #Agroforestry #SustainableFarming #RegenerativeAgriculture #ClimateAction

Across Africa and beyond, forests are disappearing at an alarming rate—much of it due to industrial agriculture and unsustainable farming practices. As trees are cleared for monocrops and grazing land, the soil erodes, biodiversity vanishes, and farmers are left with less fertile land year after year. But deforestation isn’t the only way to grow food. We have a unique opportunity. Farmers have the power to restore landscapes while securing their livelihoods. Through the Forest Garden Approach, tens of thousands of African farmers are proving that agriculture and reforestation can go hand in hand. By planting thousands of diverse trees alongside their crops, farmers in our program regenerate their soil, increase biodiversity, and build long-term climate resilience—while growing more food and boosting their incomes. They’re not just farming; they’re rebuilding ecosystems and food systems. This is our opportunity: to support a movement where agriculture protects forests instead of destroying them. A future where African farmers lead the way in sustainable food production and climate solutions. Let’s choose a future that grows with trees, not against them. #InternationalDayofForests #Agroforestry #ForestGarden #SustainableAgriculture

The latest WMO climate report confirms what we already know—climate change is accelerating, and the world is running out of time to act. But there’s good news: farmers can be the frontline heroes in the fight against climate change if we let them. We see it every day: farmers transforming their landscapes, building resilience against extreme weather, sequestering carbon through agroforestry, and securing a more sustainable future for their families and communities. The key? Investing in farmer-led solutions. With the right training, tools, and resources, farmers can be climate champions—protecting biodiversity, regenerating ecosystems, and feeding the world. Let’s shift the narrative. Farmers aren’t just victims of climate change; they’re leaders in the solution. 🌍 Learn more at trees.org #ClimateAction #Agroforestry #RegenerativeAgriculture #NatureBasedSolutions https://lnkd.in/ev2etq_K
